The young man, we learn, had an attack -of the measles, in the first place, and then his lungs became which resulted in the consumption. Lewis was highly tho't of hy all who knew him, and he had a large number of friends in the county. This is the second son the Widow Henderson has followed to the grave within the past 18 months. She and her onty remaining son have the sympathy of all who know them. The body of Lewis was brought to Oskaloosa, and taken to the Presbyterian church, where Rev.

The Ladies' Temperance Union will give a supper in the Hofman building on the evening of the 26th, tiie proceeds of which will be given to the City Rand. This move should be responded to by all our citizens, for it is a praiseworthy and laudable one.

The band has struggled along under many difficulties, and yet at the same time, it ts one among the best in the state. Many of the best ladies in the community are engaged in getting up the supper, and our citizens may depend upon having a pleasant time on that eaening. The republican county central committe is called to meet at the court house at Oskaloosa on Tuesday, next, May 10, ''to take into consideration the calling of a county convention to send delegates to the State Congressional convention of June 26th, and for the transaction of other important business." A the same time and place a republican countj- convention will be held: for the purpose of selecting 6 delegates and 6 alternates to attend the Congressional convention to beheld at Clay Centre, May 24th. Each Township will be entitled to one delegate and one alternate for each 30 votes and each fraction over 15 votes cast for Jas. A Garfield for President in 1880; follows: Oskaloosa 10, Union 4, Jefferson 5, Norton Delaware 13, Rock Creek 5, Osawkeo 4, Kaw 3, Fairvie 2, Kentucky 6, Rural 4, Sarcoxie 3, and the same number of alternates.

The primaries for the election of delegates to county convention will be held on Saturdaj May 13th, com niencing, at 2 o'clock p. m. A party of swindlers are now circulating through Kansas, defrauding district school boards by selling them Wood's mathematical charts. They take in the board with a long speech, and then agree to deliver the set of charts at some future date but take a school order at once, which the' take to some broker and get cashed. They sell the charts at from 825 to 840, when any one can buy them in the east at 83 per set.

Country boards will do well to look out for these gentry. A tremendous anti-monopoly meeting was held in New- York City last week, participated in by democrats, republicans, Tare many men and greenbacks, and laid the foundation for a State organization which will take the field as a third party in the event that the Republican and Democratic organizations 1 a G. W. McCammon, of Valley Falls came up Tuesday and returned Wednesday. He informs us that he is contemplating a trip to Colorado for his health.
