The second game between the Enterprise and Simon Rothschild base ball clubs was played on the Abilene fair grounds last Friday afternoon.

The game was about even for the first four innings, after which the Abilene boys began some tall playing and won the game by the decisive score of 27 to 8. The Rotschild club had a pitcher from Illinois a daisy enrver, whom our boys could not 1 at successfully, but the Rot bach Id boys did fine playing throughout the game, especially in the last three innings. Around Manitou cluster numerous points of interest, more than around any other point in the Rockies: Garden of the Gods, only two miles Glen Eyrie, Devils Punch Bowl, Cave of the Winds, Grand Caverns, Ute Pass, Rainbow and Bridal Veil Falls, Crystal and Manitou parks, and last but not least, Pikes Peak, which towers above its brother mountains, king of the Rockies. Manitou itself is qnite a little village, consisting chiefly of hotels and boarding bouses.

Quite a number of very pretty cottages, either inhabited by the owners or rented to tourists, have been built the last two years. Many more are being built. Living at hotels is expensive, the charges rivaling in steepness the very mountains themselves. Tenters are Lot very welcome are looked down upon as not quite up to the standard of snobocracy. In fact they charge $10.00 for the privilege of tenting on some mountain sides.

Go where you will and the blight of monopoly is seen. To illustrate to what extent the cod-fish aristocrats carry things: A prominent Ktmsas politician, who is kept and fed by one of our railroad corporations, refused to allow ns to use water from one of his hydrants because tte were tenters. Said politician in Kansas would, at th behest of his masters, kiss the dirtiest buby of the poorest drayman in Topeka. But there are also royal men aud women here, as else where. Rev.

J. A. Antrim and wife, also are one of those rare couples who can and do make one feel at home in the drenriest desert. May they always prosper. Mr.

Antrim ediis the Manitou Daily Tourist," and a lively little paper he does make of it, Financially it has also been quite a success and as Mr. Antrim must give it up to' work broader fields it will afford some bright young fellow with little capital, but lots of vim and some brains, a splendid opportunity to make some money. Has Dickinson such a young man who wants the chance? Mrs. Lillie, of Chapman, and her brother, Mr. Tyler, also camped with Antrims.

They are of that class of whole souled, warm hearted, English people whem to meet is always a pleasure. In Denver we met Rev. Schnltz and his estimable wife. Hutton and Miss Short. They are happy, bright, independent and self reliant. They seem to get along excellently without "a man." $5.50, A law last winter makes it nec Killed by On Tuesday morning about three o'clock lightning struck the residence of Wni. Arthur, ia Ridge township about four miles from this place, killing his oldest son Win. J. During tbe raging storm the young man went to tbe window to watch the scene as was his invariable custom. The lightning struck the point of tbe north gable end.

The main current following down the studding, shattered it in shivers and burst off the sheeting and siding. A small current strnck the window where the young mm was standing, entered the room and struck him on the shoulder, killing him atmost instantly. Although living about an hour he was entirely senseless, and all efforts to revive him were in vain. His brother Charles was in their bed at the time and received but a slight shock. Mr.

and Mrs. Arthur were sleeping in their own room directly under the boys' room and received no injury. The lath and plaster covered their bed, and taking it all they had a very narrow escape. Hope Herald. Iake It I1 nanimUR.
