H. Lucas, of Topeka, and Miss Maria V. Lowrie, of St. Joseph, Mo were married at the bride's home, Thursday evening, June 5. They received many handsome and valuable presents.

On Friday June 6, the bride and groom arrived in Topeka, accompanied by the bride's sister. Miss Mattie B. Lowrie. At night, they were given a grand reception at their church, An im-meuse crowd came out to welcome them. Tuesday night, a grand surprise was given them, gotten up by Rev.

Christ burgh. The night was lovely, the attendance as very large. Excellent music was furnished by the Topeka Pleasant Hour Orchestra consisting of the fallowing; Lead Violin, Dr. J. M.

Tamison; 2nd Violin, B. Ware; Cornet, J. A. Hicks; Clarionet, A. Hall; Guitar, A.

D. Defrantz; Bass, A Abbott, and the Oriole Quartet. Refreshments were provided by Mesdames Mintie Brown, A. Joyce, Dunlap. A large table was filled with presentsvhich were presented by Prof.

S. Watkins in a brief speech and accepted by a very appropriate speech from Rev. Lucas. The festivities continued until 12 o'clock, when all dispersed, expressing themselves as having had a lovely time and wishing the bride and groom all the happiness possible in this life.
