Ritterspacher, 918 W. South. The Church Council has been making a strong effort to get the finances of the church on a good basis and adopted a plan which will without a doubt enable the church to meet all of its obligations if every member will make an effort to pledge and contribute a stated sum every month. A goodly number have not as yet responded to the' appeal. Now and then one will plead poverty and wish to be placed upon the list as a recipient of the generosity of others, but do you reader? Of course not; but why this failure to voluntarily respond with a frank statement of what you will aim to do Neglect? Yes, neglect, but oh what a crop of troubles come to a pastor and a church council because of the neglect of the indefferent part of the membership of a church! Maybe some are waiting to see how it is going to "go" before they pledge.

But by this time they have had all the evidence any reasonable man could wish. Come, lend a helping hand that the lord may pour out into your soul a meed of blessing. The Extra-cent-a-day Band has set aside $1 a month for the purchase of flowers for the decoration of the chancel. Of course just now no money is needed. Mrs.

W. D. Shepherd is chairman of the committee and has for her assistants Misses Neva Holmquist, Ruby Peal, Neva Miller and Grace Ott. Book Reviews. The Age of Fable; Or, The Beauties of Mythology, by Thomas Bul-finch, a new, revised, and enlarged edition, edited by Rev.

J. L. Scott, D. with a classical index and dictionary and nearly two hundred illustrations. 800-500 pp.

No reader of classical literature can well do without a good work on mythology. The history, thought and experiences of the ancients have been so thoroughly interwoven with their mythical beings, that one really must have some idea of what they believed in the realm of the imaginary, in order to understand the real character of this history. For this reason an ordinary person cannot read Milton, whose poems literally abound with allusions to the mythical beings of the ancient times. So many beautiful stories are found here that a public speaker finds it a most prolific field for splendid illustration. The author has culled from this vast field a most choice presentation of the gems of the mythological world, and has told the story in elegant style.

The work is splendidly illustrated in half-tone etchings and pencil drawings of the most modern type of production. What Dr. Charles Anthon was to the college world fifty years ago Mr. Bul-finch is to the college world of today. Topeka This and That.

The young men of the church gave a very pleasant social on the 20th of last month. Mr. Roy Tuer is now singing in the choir, filling the place left by Mr. Bol-inger on April 1st. The young ladies are planning to give a social at the church some day in the near future.

Probably next Wednesday evening, Misses Ellen and Adina Foberg have returned from New Mexico. Miss Laura Youngberg went to Wa-mego on Thursday the 18th as a delegate to the Eighth District Convention of the Y. P. S. C.
