ABILENE ITEMS. Make Your Baking STOCKTON NEWS. By "Sunshine." For the last two weeks in Novem ber. Mrs. John Noland gave a party in honor of Mr.

Poland's 49th birthday anniversary last Thursday evening to about 30 of their friends at 9:30 G. U. O. of O. F.

Monday. A large crowd attended. The ladies will meet Wednesday evening with the Household of Ruth. EMPORIA ITEMS. The Yale Rev.

W. W. Stewart preached three lovely sermons for us Sunday, the 22nd David Cannon and daughter Mayme, of Nicodemus, were in our city the 16th of this month, returning the next evening. John Loredand daughter were in the city the 18tb, returning the same evening. Oada Kirtley gave an oyster supper at the residence of Mrs, R.

Stewart, Nov. 19, in honor of Miss Estella Martin and James Crawford. Miss Erne Green and Mrs. J. L.

Savers gave a musical entertainment in honor of Miss Estella Martin and James Crawford Nov. 21. The other guests were Mrs. J. H.

Johnson and Miss Drusilla Taylor. Miss Myrtle Stewart and Eugene Stewart entertained Misses Cordelia and Esther Vandewall, Lola Nevins and Frank Bates with music and refreshments the 16th of this month. They reported a fine time. James Crawford and Miss Estella Martin left Sunday night, the 22nd, the former for bis borne at Leavenworth and the latter for Concordia. Mr.

Crawford expects to return about the holidays. Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Martin, had their Thanksgiving dinner Sunday, because James and Estella would not be here Thanksgiving. Jacob Coleman and wife, of Nico demus, were in our city shopping, Monday, Nov.

23. Miss Mayme Cannon and brother Willie were in our city shopping on the 23rd, returning the next evening. Roy Beverley, of Speed, Kansas, spent Thanksgiving with us. We are very glad to. see the sun once more, after many days of darkness.

The Pleasant Green Baptist church served Thanksgiving din ner and sup per on Main street, Thursday. The crowd was small, but they made about $12, without expenses. Rev. W. W.

Stewart preached bis farewell sermon Sunday night. He will go from here to Nicodemus, and we hope he will make us another visit before he returns home. Miss Eflie S. Green left Thursday evening for Oklahoma, to teach school. We wish for her much success.

The roads have been so bad that the mall from Bogue has been coming every other day. Charley Vaughn returned home to spend Thanksgiving. JUNCTION CITY ITEMS. The A. M.

Sherrin Brothers have a nice line. jSalina will soon install a new fire department. The committae is now in iHutchinson investigating their machines. We are showing anew, up-to-date line of tcvs and Christmas goods. Come in and look them over before you buy.

Fashionable foot wear at Sherrin Brothers. Miss Willie Green is expected home the last of the week from Quindaro Kansas where she has been attending Western University. She will have vbout two weeks vacation. There are more colored people in at present than there has ever jjeen in the history of Salina. O. of O.F., of Junction City. --tirinate Duttinir on the Grand I Mrs Cora Jefferson departed this life on December 3, age 2G years.

She was married two years and a half ago to Mr. Emanuel Jefferson. She was a loving wife and a devoted christian and was a member of the A. M. E.

Methodist church. She leaves a hus band, four brothers, a father and many other relation and a host of friends to mourn her loss but we feel our loss is a heavenly gain. Mr. Jefferson has the sympathy of the community. Rev.

J. L. Crane attended the funeral. Other than the immediate relatives of Emporia were the following of Council Grove: W. Falls, B.

Falls. L. Moore, McHenry, I. McHenry, H. loore, Moore, of Lawrence, Emanuel Jack son Maggie Jackson, Etta Falls, Harriet Bolden, Bula Jackson, of Newton and Ophelia Brown.

The Christain church bad a rally last Sunday and the clubs reported as following: white ribbon club $24 25, the red ribbon club $23 25 and the blue ribbon club $20.35, the total being $67.85. The Captains feel grate-ul to friends who helped them. Rev. Matlock is captain of the blue club, captain of the white club and Mr. J.

Helm of the red club. Miss Addie Poston left Thursday afternoon for Topeka to take charge of hes position as matron at the Industrial school. Mrs. M. A.

Evans has been very sick but is some better at this writing. G. A. Wellis is very low. Naoma Chapter No.

13 O. E. S. had its election of oillcers. The following were elected: Mrs.

Leslie, Treasurer; E. Jobe, Con. M. Douglas, Assoc. L.

Brown, Esther: Allie Evans, Martha; L. V. Staley, Electra. Mrs. Dollie Tipton was elected Treasurer of St.

James Baptist church, instead of Mrs. M. A. Evans, who served in that capacity for 22 years and gave perfect satisfaction. The social given by St.

James Baptist church realized a neat sum of $19. The Utopian club, with Miss Delia Newsora, President; Roy Evans, Vice President; Miss Janette Green, Secretary, and Rev. J. L. Cran, Treasurer bad a very pleasant meeting at the parsonage last Thursday night and made plans for their annual reception, to be given Dec.

17 at the Masonic Hall. This club is for the literary and social uplift of the young people and has about forty members. Mrs. Lou Harris has been very sick, but is better at this writing. Walker is very sick at his home.

Rev. J. L. Cran made a flying trip to Topeka last week and sent out twelve hundred minutes to the various pastors throughout the State. Miss Inas Woods passed through the city on her way to Strong Ciiy, to attend the funeral of Mrs.

R. Levels, who died there Sunday. Miss Nellie Buskin is visiting ber sister, Mrs. Etolia McFe'I, in Kansas City, Mo. Mrs.

Minnie Collier Lee, of Topeka, is visiting ber parents, Mr. and Mrs. Collier. tlGLO The revival meetingt at Mount Zion church are meeting with fair success A large crowd in attendance every night. Rev.

W. L. Brasco, of Emporia, stopped in the city last Wednesday on bis way from Ellsworth. Miss Nora Williams went to Salina last Thursday to spend a few days visiting her father, Claud Williams, Miss Lottie Bronaugh, of Enterprise, was shopping in the city today. Mrs.

Richard Bell returned home Sunday after spending a few days visiting her daughter, Mrs. George Meckling, of Manhattan. Arthur Bronough was an Abilene visitor Thanksgiving day. Mrs. Jessie Williams spent Thanks giving with her daughter, Mrs.

Elmer Williams, of Salina. Edmund Brisco, of Enterprise! was in town last Thursday. Will Baskerville spent Thanksgiv day with his sister, Mrs. Nellie Brisco, of Enterprise. Mrs.

Mable Baskerville went to En terprise Friday to visit ber daughter, Miss Lillian Lewis went to Man hattan Sunday. T. J. Banks has accepted a position as chef at the Home Rule cafe. LAWRENCE Thanksgiving morning a grand time was held at Warren St.

church. At 5 o'clock prayer meeting, preaching at 11 o'clock by the pastor, Rev. BV A. Smith. Subject of text, "Ob, give thanks unto the Lord, for his mercies endureth forever." Mission Circle rendered an excellent program at night.

The State Mis sionary, Sister Watson, from Kansas City, was present. Friday night, Nov. 27, there was a novel entertainment given at Warren St. church when the two captains, the "Kansas-Kentucky' rally" held their rival supper in the basement of the church. The north side of the church was tastefully decorated in yellow and brown, the Sunflower color.

This color schema was carried out in detail. Ladies at the door pinned sunflower badges upon all the Kansans, The president, Mrs, Lulu Johnson, with ber ten Lieutenants, served a menu consisting of pickles, roast chicken, spare ribs, fried rabbit, irlsbi potatoes, corn, individual pumpkin pies, coffee, cream and cake, Brother M. Young, with his loyal Kentucky confederates dispensed a genuine Kentucky supper of opossum and sweet potatoes, etc. to bis friends. The Kentucky folks had the south side of the church.

They wore a unique little badge made of green ribbon with a grain of corn upon it, surely repre senting the "corn cracker." A very jolly time was spent and Pastor Smith felt like be was "the biggest man in in town." After four weeks' work the rally Sunday was a success, in spite of the very inclement weather. The Kentucky folks worked hard under Captain Young, but Kansas won out in the final report. Many students spent Thanksgiving at their various homes. Robert Johnson entertained his friends Friday evening, with a party at the residence of his sister, Mrs. Anna Irviugs.

Miss Birdie Brown visited Kansas City during the Thanksgiving holi days. Mrs. Mary Gregg and Mrs. Kate Ramsey were the guests of Mr. and Mrs.

Overton in Kansas City Thanks giving. Rev. Berry, of Eudoria, preached at 3 o'clock Sunday. Brother Berry did well. His text was "The authority of the preacher." Brothers Harris and Wallace were also pulpit visitors at Warren St.

last Sunday. Rev. Harris preached at night. Henry Fuel was buried from the A. M.

E. church Saturday week. The funeral services of Ernest Sales-berry took place at his home last Monday. The body of Mrs. Mary Taylor was brought up from Kansas City and will be buried from the 1st Baptist cburcb tomorrow at 2 o'clock.

Mrs. Dora Minor Is on the sick list Miss Lillic Williams is very tick. o'clock. The guests were all seated at small tables decorated beautifully with hearts and doilies and an elegant 3-course luncheon was served Mrs. Noland being assisted by Mrs.

O. Murrell and Mrs. Henry Finch. Mr. Noland received quite a uumber of valuable presents.

At a late hour the guests departed declaring they had been royally entertained and each wishing Mr. Noland many more happy birthdavs. ALLEN A. M. K.

CHAPEL. The Allen A. M. E. Chapel services opened at 8 p.

m. by choir singing Song No. 127, "I Must Tell Jesus." Rev. Frazier took for his text the 4th Chapter, 16th Verse of the Book of "If I perish, I perish." He handled his text with care; he analyzed the characteristics of four different persons appertaining to the which was the King of Shoushan, Queen Vesti, Esther and Mordicai. Rev.

E. church met at 10 a. Sunday, Dec. 6, 1908, and organized a lively Sunday school. There was an attendance of between thirty and forty pupils.

Rev. Frazter called the house to order and read the 9th chapter of Proverbs. The choir sang the song No. 1, No, not One." The Invocation was offered by Rev. Frazier, then opening song for business was sung, "Rock of Ages, Cleft for me." It was moved and seconded that Rosa B.

Smith act as Secretary pro tern. Next motion was that we go in a permanent organization, und the motion carried. Mrs. Frances Williams was elected Superintendent; Mrs. Nora Williams Asst.

Superintendent; Ethel Frazier Permanent Secretary. The organization was completed with a full quorum of officers Ethel B. Frazier, Secretary. Sunday services at Allen Chapel A. M.

E. church. Sunday School at 10 o'clock. Mits. Francis Williams.

The men and women's rally, given under the auspices of tHe First Baptist church of Great Bend Sunday, Nov. 29, was quite a success in every respeut. The men raised 1151.75 and the women xo.4d, making a grand total of $300. The proceeds will go to apply on the lot south of the church, recently purchased by Rev. Raimey for the First Baptist church.

The members of the church certainly spare no pains in returning Rev. Raimey a vote of thanks for his kindness. The church made a financial settlement with Rev. Raimey Dec. ti.

May the Lord him for his faithful work. Mrs. J. J. Wells, of Larned, attended the rally at the First Baptist church Sunday, Nov.

29. Mrs. Alfred Johnson leaves Thursday morning for Newton, to attend the first quarterly Board meeting Dec. 10 and 11. Uev.

J. H. Raimey left Monday evening, Dec. 0, for Strong City, to oillciate at a funeral, and will return Wednesday to Newton, to attend the first quarterly Board meeting. Ceorge Miller is working at Alfred Johnson's chili parlor.

The choir of the First Baptist church will give a social at the parsonage i Wednesday evening, Dec. 9. The f-ieen Esther Circle of the First ItiiptM church elected the fol- lowing officers for the coming year: President, Mrs. Eannie Raimey; Vice President, Mrs. Molioda Sellers; Treasurer, Mrs.
