James Dudley Hunt, who is a workman for God. On Sunday morning, Nov. 8, he preached to a large congregation, Text was found In Roman 8 35. C. H- M. Collins, of Kansas City, presented the endowment. Prof. Collens is Grand Master of the Masonic lodges in the State.

Mr. Willie Morton, formerly of Atchison, who is now in the govern ment employ as farmer in an Okla boma Indian school, was in town last week visiting his parents. Mrs. Nellie Smothers, of St, Joseph, bas been visiting her parents and friends in Atchison and Lawrence for the past two months. She took her departure for Brooklyn, Y.

E. Metnodist church is preparing for a rally the first Sunday in December. The Ebenezer Baptist cburcb mem bers are working earnestly for a Christmas rally. LAWRENCE ITEMS. Services were well attended at the churches last Sunday.

Myrtle Wilson bas returned from a visit to Topeka. Sbe was at the bedside of a sick uncle. Joseph Fitchen was called to To peka on account of the serious Illness of his son Sheldon. Leonard Sayies and Robert Jackson were Kansas City visitors last Friday. While there they attended "Cole and Johnson." Mr.

Salsbcrry is sick at tbe borne of his mother. Tbe Girls' Progressive Club will render an excellent program at the church Tuesday evening. STov. 19th the Forum will have a special program at tbe Warren St. church.

The Men's League, of Warren St. church, will meet tbjs week with Brother Lewis Overstreet. Mrs. Polly Cloud entertained ber Birthday club last Saturday. A dainty spread was served.

A line party was given in honor of Miss Myrtle West, of New Kirk, Okla. Misses Olda and Essie Anderson, Leora Fitchew, Leona and Ethel Johnson composed this party. Mrs. Dr. Young will entertain tne Seirra Leone club Tuesday afternoon.

Lemuel King whs buried Saturday from the A. M. E. church. Ed.

Thurston wis burled Friday from the A. M. E. church. Aunt Mandy Cooke's funeral was held Monday morning at Lesber's A Powers' Undertaking Parlors.

The Golden Eagle club will meet with Mrs. Myrtle Wilson this week. Our pastor, Rev. B. A.

Smith, is treating bis congregation to some wholesome sermons. Last Sunday "Sowing and Reaping" in tbe morning was full of good things. Fresh doughnuts every day at 1 The Delicatessen." 17, 1908. On Wednesday evening, October 28, Mr. Solomon Gaston and Miss Birdie Smith, both of Ellsworth, were united in the holy bonds of matrimony by tbe Rev. Robert Cox, of Salina. Following the ceremony a nice two-course supper whs spread to about sixty guests at tbe bome of the bride's parents, Mr.

and Mrs. Eugene Smith. After supper a number of friends, in company with tbe bride and groom, went to tbeir residence and viewed their presents which were numerous and useful The bride was dressed in white silk and the bridesmaid carried a bunch of pink carnations. Miss Pearl Smith played the wedding march. On Sunday morning early Mrs.

Dul- cina Blackburn died at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. Ed. Williams, on Nov. 1, 1908. Hhe departed this life just six years and one day atter the death of her husband, Charles Blackburn.

She joined the church and was baptised at the age of fifteen years, in the State of Kentucky and she has lived here in Kansas about 24 years. The deceased leaves a daugb ter and other relatives to mourn after ber. But while she is our loss we hope she is Heaven's gain. She was buried In the Ellsworth cemetery on Monday, and Rev. Robert Cox officiated at tbe funeral, assisted by Rev.

Steward. Rev. Steward preached here several days. Ed. Keesee has resigned his position as cook at tbe White House and will become one of the dining car crew.

Richard Mason, of Lyons, is filling the vacancy. Mr. Keesee goes jiasi on train No. 104 Thursday morning. We wish both cooks success.

Rev. S. W. Alexander preached here Sunday and he Is visiting with friends here yet. Mrs.

Annie Nelson has a side walk put in on ber south street now, also Mrs. Gaston, Sophia Bell, Edward Williams and Rluefoot Williams. Rueben Nelson was borne from! Russell a few days. Rev. Robert Cox will preach here on Sunday, November 29.

Every body come out and hear the Reverend. At Paxlco, Kansas, (he First Baptist church will have preaching on Thanksgiving at 11 A. 3i. Thire will be a paper by Mrs. L.

McAdoo, of Carbon-dale. This will be at the church and a sermon will be given at 3 p. m. at Woodmen ball by Rev. A.

Barry, of Eudora, Kansas, and at 7-30 p. m. a program will be rendered by Alma church and Paxico. Rev. J.

Rev. Abbott is a former pastor from here. Mrs. Abbott says tbey are preparing for a grand rally Christmas. Junction City will have to be up and doing to keep tbem from beating'us.

Miss Nellie Crews, who is teaching school in Dunlap. was in the city Friday the guest of relatives. Miss Crews left Sunday for Dunlap to take up ber school again. She reports to be doing One with her work. We all wish her success.

Messrs Levi Pitts, Buroie Pitts and Carter of Manhattan were in the city Sunday tbe guests of friends. John Hanks of Manhattan was In the city Sunday the guest of Miss Josephine Smith. Miss Etta May Leach, of Kansas City, passed through the city Sunday on ber way to Okiabama City. Skating every Friday night at the rink on West Seventh street. Every one invited with good behavior.

Mr. and Mrs. Bert Kimbrough are building another two-story residence on West 12tb street. Mrs. Jim Brice, of Vinita, Oklahoma are in the city.

We are glad to say we have one first class colored carpenter in the city, Mr. Joseph Short. He will do good ork and at a reasonable price. The little daughter of Mr. and Mrs.

N. Rainbow has been very ill with pneumonia but was reported much better Sunday. Don't forget the literary every Tues day night. The ladies of tbe industrial club are going to give a grand entertainment Thanksgiving evening after which Mis Lulu Walker will have a musical concert. Every one invited.

Come and enjoy yourself. Miss Edith Ramsey has returned from Clay Center where she Tins been visiting for some time. ATCniSON ITEMS. We have bad severe cold weather for the past week. The contract to complete the new basement of the Shilo church was let to Mr.

P. W. Barnett last Wednesday night week and on the following Monday the work was resumed. Mr. Barnett is progressing nicely with the work and will take a trip to Kansas City," on Monday for the purpose of employing two more stone masons.

He expects to complete the stone work in ten days. Services at tbe Shilo church were largely attended. At 11 o'clock Pastor W. S. Blake took for his text, Jer.

He preached a noble sermon from the text-Mrs. Allie Carter writes from Stewart, Nevada, that she is well pleased with ber new position and likes ber work very much. Besides caring for the sick she lectures twice a month to the students of the Carson Indian school.

Mrs. Carter's letters are joy fully received by ber many friends. She gives bope and inspiration in each message. She never fails to mention tbe name of our blessed Savior and tells bow sbe is trying to bold up tbe banner of Christ to a people who know him not. Our prayers are for ber success in every way, and that ber talks may have the desired effect upon tbe minds of those wicked people.

Her subject last Tuesday evening was "How to Get and Keep a Situation." Gen. 39: 1 7. In it sbe tells them tbe sweet story of Joseph's life. P. W.

club gave a very pleasant surprise party on Mrs. Henry Garnett last Thursday evening. Every one present reported having a grand time. The hall was crowded to its utmost capacity, stud every one present praises the entertainment highly.
