Much time, money and wind were scattered hither and thither in making preparations to welcome the president and bride to the green gardens of the west, where young lambs gambol on the lawn, strawberries sell at 10 cents per quart and the smiles of Heaven are showered upon saiat and alike. Oberlin was the initial point, and sentinels were posted on every hill top for a hundred miles distant, to signal your coming and carry the news to Hannah. The hotels and restaurants had each laid in a fresh quart of strawberries and the ice and milk wagons were to be promptly tut hand when the signal Hag went skyward from the dome of the post ollice building.
