27. H. S. Givler, Editor Western Kansas World. Dear Sir: Please send me the World here, I am almost homesick for the county news and about two thousand miles from home.

"Nitro is situated in a pretty little vallejr jsurrouoded by wooded hills, some contrast" to Kainsas plains befieve me This town like several of the cantonments sprung up in the night so speak. We are just eighteen miies from Charleston, W. Va. Quite a metropolis and one can go there, most any time day or night by train, boat, interurban, street car, ferry or auto, several small towns much closer. Lots of work here in all lines.

There are men here from almost state in the Union and several thousand girls working also. I am charging a press one of the finishing houses of The Hercules Powder Company engaged in the manufacture of smokeless powder for the government. I started in as smokeless helper but sbon worked up to charger. I like the work and the pay is good so think I will stay all winter if they, don't shut down sooner. Cordially, Alfred Lofstead.

Ufford, Wa-Keeney Living in retirement at Littleton, a former salesman, George L. Brown, wears no Carnegie medals although he has saved many lives. He is not a hero. He is an elderly, every day man who years ago learned of a simple old fashioned remedy for pneumonia, and spent his own time and money in exploiting it. He told friends about it.

He had copies of the recipe printed and distributed them freely, and during his long life has never known the cure to fail, even after physicians have given up hope. Mr. Brown could substantiate Ralph Walker, F. F. Zeman.

The afternoons being so short all workers are urged to be on hand promptly at one o'clock ready for work. There has been received, also 30 pounds of sock yarn and 40 pounds of sweater yarn, so there is an opportunity for every knitter, in the to get busy. There is an urgent call for all these garments and it is a duty incumbent upon all to get to work immediately and to turn in the finished pieces promptly. It is unfair and an injust-cie to the men in camps and hospitals to hold out for weeks or months the garments they are needing more than ever as cold weather approaches. WE BUY AND SELL LAND G.
