The county had offered a reward for Jones and Sheriff Pruitt had sent out hundreds of postal notices all over the county. Last week he gave himself up and the Cleveland authorities wired the fact to Coffeyville, and Marshal Smith at once started after him with a warrant from the Coffeyville city court.

Sunday Sheriff Pruitt left for Topeka to get requisition papers and left at once for Ohio to get his It will be some days until it will be known which gets the man, Smith or Pruitt. Mensch-Godwin. Harmon's Store. THOMAS SCOTT, LAWYERS. Office Over Firs! National Bank. Judge Thomas J. Flanncllf.

Judge Thos. Flannelly o' Oswego is an upright and courageous Judged clear-headed, faithful to the principles of law, loyal to his oath and honestly devoted to bis high duties. Had he been of the mold of some dodging, double-dealing political lawyers, looking only to the approval of the momentarily deranged and taken counsel of a fear which the denunciation of foolish and selfish men would imbue some exercising official powerhe would have evaded his conscientious obligation by denying the injunction of the Kansas Natural Gas and thereby have escaped the unpleasantness and unpopularity which his rightful decision entailed. Judge Flannelly, however, needs no vindication, as he did not merit censure. His action brought things to a culmination and has perceptibly modified the strenu-osity of credulous anti-piping papers and gas-issue-elected members of the legislature.

Judge Flannelly will be endorsed, as he should ba, two years hence by being re-elected, if he is a candidate. Fredonia Citizen. Kansans as Investigators. It was Joseph L. Bristow of the postofflce department whom the president detailed to unearth the postal frauds in Cuba, and he did it bravely and the conspirators are, some of them In the penitentiary, as area number of the departmental thieves.

Now, another Kansan Col. Al R. Green, formerly editor of the Cedarvale Commercial as special for the Interior Department, has unearthed gigantic land frauds in the west and a number of the offenders have been convicted, but the great surprise, as the result of Col. Green's work, was the indictment In the U. S.

Court last Friday of U. S. Senator Mitchell of Oregon, who Is 70 years age and been in Congress for a quarter century and Congressmen BInger Herman, and a half others in connection with fraud in the entry of public lands. The dispatch adds that "Green has earned the enmity of the Oregon delegation' but he has the respect of the President, Secretary of the interior and the general public. The guilty should be punished, especially of republicahs who go Into get rich-quick schemes that are dis- honest.

JS. WELLE, uasmer. From reports it would seem that the "hot-heads" of Montgomery county those who attack every one who does not see and act as they do are very liable to nullify the influence of Montgomery county in the legislature. Already the representatives of Labette Cherokee and Wilson counties are condemning our course, and it is now doubtful whether our countycan even hold their support for legislation against piping gas out of the state. It is also known that the representatives from counties far removed from the gas field are not anxious to assist us in our gas fight.

If anything is accomplished by Senator Porter and Representatives Banks and Holdren, it will be by con-eltiat-nry means and good judgment on their part 2rebands will drive away the help we need at this critical period. S'AQO Ex Senator Edwin Taylor of Wyandotte county, the. greatest potato grower in Kansas says I am going to quit raising fruit.

For five years 1 have had no crop to speak of. This is true, particularly of apples. The leaves will not stay on the trees. I don't know why it is, and I can find nothing lo prevent it. Pears have been a failure on account of blight.

I am going into the sheep business. I have been investigating it carefully and I believe there is money in sheep raising in this state. Representative Geo. L. Banks of this city is "outspoken in opposition to the proposed division of this judicial district, and increasing the expenses to taxpayers several thousand dollars each year, when the Judge has ample time for all the business.

It Is a fact that with increasing population we have more litigation, but to meet this demand Judge Flannelly has purchased property in Independence and will move here in a few weeks to become a citizen of the county, He has a dice home in Oswego which he will dispose of at a loss, in order to make his investment in our city. The Judge and his wife will have a hearty welcome to our city and they will influence others to come.
