Just as we are going to press we C-i learn that Mr. P. S. Oatraan, of this rived in town having in charge one Jeremiah Emius, who lives about ten miles west of Caldwell, arrested upon the charge of seduction and incest with his own daughter.

It seems that a complaint was made against Mr. Emins at this place some two months ago by his daughter, for the above stated crime, and papers were issued for his arrest, but before the officers could serrethem he "skipped" the country, and was not heard from until he returned last week. He tried to get his daughter to come to Wellington and make affidavit that the charges against him were unfounded. The girl, who is enceinte by the alleged incestuous intercourse, refused to do so. In the meantime a son-in-law of Emins, at whose house the gill was staying had given the authorities at Caldwell notice of the father's return and he was speedily arrested and conveyed to the county jail for safekeeping.

During the storm the other night, lightning struck a large cottonwood tree in the north-west part of town, under which a family were camping. Fortunately for the family the lightning passed down the opposite side of the tree from them, which probably accounts for their almost miraculous escape.

We would fain hope, for the sake of humanity, that the charges may be disproved, but the sad story and condition of the poor girl, are damning, if not incontrovertible proofs to the contrary. That a man a father could sink to such depths of depravity as to outrage his own child wreck her young life, and blast all that is lovable, pure, womanly and holy in her being, is too fiendish a monster for the imagination to conceive.
