We obserye the name of V. The next name is our most excellent friend Featherly, who poisons dogs for a living, and who threatened to kill our dog while in that city. Another lesson is taught by Mr. Blake's return, and that is, that Kirwin is a poor place to move from. It is just the thing to move to Kirwin, but bad practice to go away. W. H.

Bracken resigned to the Board of County Commissioners his office as Superintendent ot Public Instruction of Phillips county. Mr. Bracken has been an efficient officer, but like a conscientious man, he considers his first duly to his calling as a minister, hence his resignation, as a new law required all his time in the school work. The Board exercised good judgment in the selection of Mr. C.

A. Lewis, of Kirwin, to fill the vacancy occasioned by the resignation of Mr. Bracken. Commissioners adjourn to-day lo meet no more until July next. Fred Morse says he likes the Kirwin folks.

Morse is as deserving a young man as we have in Phillipsburg. John Grillis, of Kirwin, is in town today. He thinks of coming to stay. Ed Korns is the most inveterate cigar fiend iu the west. A lodge of Knights of Pythias was organized in town, last eek. Last Saturday morning at about two o'clock, the building belonging to Joseph Cox, of Kirwin, and occupied by M. Longtin, as a saloon, was discovered to be on fire and before assistance arrived became uncontrollable. The blacksmith shop of CM. McGuire next took fire, then the wagon shop of a Mr.

Mr. Bickford has joined the army of benedicts. He was married April Gth, to Miss Hanlon, of Prairieview. Thus Prairieview loses one of its fairest and most accomplished young ladies. We wish them joy and prosperity.

Mr. Piltman, our late depot agent, has resigned his position and gone back to his "homo iu Iowa. Mr. Boyd, from St. Louis, takes his place Mr.

Hilsted and family live in the city of Marvin now. Dr. Miley reports a great deal of sickness. The Colorado fever has reached Marvin and a few of our citizens will try their luck there soon. Our merchants have got on a largo stock of spring and summer goods.which reminds one that warm weather ought to be here.

Mr. Fields and wife and Mr. Curley and wife and daughter, from Kirwin, made Marvin a flying visit Sunday. The postoffice question is settled at last and Mrs. Pratt is postmistress; furthermore, we would inform "Mr.

Anti-Pompous" (well named that the'Marvin correspondent did not have anything to do with it, either. "Uncle Sam" settled that. We suppose he thought to frighten somebody, but strange to tell, we don't scire worth a cent. It is not worth the time to enter upon a lengthy discussion with such a contemptible creature as this person seems to be. But his statements are so miserably erroneous and his insinuations such fabrications, that we felt we must call attention briefly to his article.

His slurs and insults which he heaps upon one of our leading citizens is commendable in the lowest villain only. The article giving the "dirt-slingers" such as they deserve wasn't written by the Marvin correspondent, neither a citizen of Marvin. Perhaps "Anti-Pompous" will find before he gets through that this same "worthy citizen' has friends, and those who don't shoot in the dark, but "true The trouble is, the 'angelics," or "dirt-slingers," (we think the latter coat will fit tiie best, as the former would pinch most awfully) are so badly beaten that they don't know which way to turn or what to do ith themselves. They are quarreling and back-biting among themselves half the time and the other half they are making up and slinging dirt at some one else. This "Anti -Pompous" person in the shape pf a man makes' other statements, but as we write we become so thoroughly disgusted with his contemptible lies we leave them for want of proper words in the English vo cabulary to express our contempt.
