St. John, for governor. With these powerful paper to aid it the democratic party succeeded inelectiag their candidate, a man who from his attitude during the rebellion and upon the liquor question wan peculiarly obnoxious to the republican party of Kansas. These great papers sulked aud mugwuniped during that campaign and would not be comforted. In vain wu it pointed out to them that prohibition had come to stay; that it was the all overshadowing question in this state, and that their opposition to the expressed wishes of the party would only prolong the whiskey warfare and eudauger the party organization everywhere.

The world know the iequel. The republican candidate was defeated and with 1dm the party platform, which get the "cause of prohibition" back, at least for a time. It is, however, gratifying to those of us who went down with our party, to see these papers come round, however tardy it may be. That they are "coming round" we quote from the Atchison Champion and from what we have read of the others, take it as voicing their sentiments also.
