For the first time having Been this portion1 of Southwest Kansas, I feci impelled to express my admiration. I bad no idea that so lovely and fertile a country could remain little knuwn. Having just traversed the great Tan Handle af Texas, and Beaver countv, Oklahoma, 1 can lay with truth that in my opinion Seward county is far more inviting and seemingly prosperous. The several fields of wheat I have particularly noticed, give promise of more than nn average yield, and it teems too, that the land had not been properly prepared. Had one half the labor been performed here, that we wonld use in the "Bluegrass State," I believe the yield would be doubled.

The native grasses grow more luxur-antlv here than further south, and the water is decidedly better. I notice too, a greater variety of farm products. Add to this your pure, wholesome air, and the genuine hospitality of yonr people, make it a county peculiarly desirable to live in, and I firmly believe that in a lew short years the population will be more than quadrupled. An accident brought me to your county, and I am glad of it. I believe that had your county been half so well advertised as others (not deserving) not a section would be unoccupied to-day.

In fact, so well pleased am that I expect to make auother and a lengthier visit at no distant day. I shall, with your permission, write from my home in "old giving a full and true account of my trip through Texas, Oklahoma and this part ol Kansas, with my reasons for believing your country to be the superior in all things to the other two or rather the portions of Texas and Oklahoma through which I passed. Thanking ynu for the many courtesies tendered inc during my shurt stay, 1 am, Yours Truly, R. L. Allisox.

It is a relief to turn from the dismal and discouraging reports of floods, muddy fields and no crops that come from Illinois, Iowa, Missouri and Indiana, to the great garden state of Kansas, which is now blooming as a rose. There has never been a season in our history that looked more auspicious than this does at the present time. The spring may have been somewhat delayed, but not enough to make a meterial difference in the results of harvest time. The enormous wheat fields of central and western Kansas will soon be ready for the tickle, and it is conceded that the prospect iu the great winter wheat belt could not well be better. The season has been propitious and marked by an absence ot destructive insects.

This indicates a high grade of grain, which will List of arrivals at the Rock Island Hotel during the week.
