S. Smith, one of the proprietors of Smiths' Pharmacy in Liberal, arrived last week from Kansas City to spend the Holidays with his mother and brothers. The, doctor is taking a coarse of studies at the Kansas Medical College this winter and will return to that institution to-morrow. He says they have lots ot snow, rain and cloudy weather in Kansas City, and it does him good to get back into tbe sunshine of Southwest Kansas, even il it is only for a few days. After the rain we had a little thunder and lightning and a little more wind, but no bad weather.

Secretary. On the same day tbe Republican Central Committee met and in due course of business moved and seconded that a convention be held at Beaver on the22d day of January '91, at the honr of 10 o'clock a. for the purpose of nominating candidates for the various county offices to be voted for on tbe 2nd ot February or when said election- may be called. The primaries to be held in the different voting precincts on January 17th '91 from the hours of 2 to 4 P. M.

Moved and carried that no proxies be allowed and that each prtcinct elect alternates for each delegate. The precincts are also instructed to select a member ot the county central committee for their precincts. The different voting precincts are entitled to delegates as follows, viz: Alpine 2, Blue Grass 3, Benton 1. Baf-falo 2, Beaver 10, Cottonwood 3, Garland 2, Gate City 4. Grand Valley 1, Hardesty 2, Ko'iomo 1, Optima 3, Pleasant Valley 5, Kenton 2, 1, Welches 2, Paladora 2, Logan 4.
