While there she suw Mildred Harris, Charlie Chaplin's former wife. She Mrs. Manley Cook Is spending the wtek ut the home of Ernest McDonald and family neur Grlnnell. Three quarters of an Inch of rain fell here Monday night. But it didn't cool the air much next day, in fact it seemed hotter to us than it had been before.

Mrs. Oscar Romlnger of Omaha, is here to visit her brother, Bert Baker, and family and other relatives and friends. Romingers formerly lived in Gove county, being among the early settlers here. Frank Jenson's daddy recently bout lit him a Columbia-Six toy automobile. It has a windshield and an imitation engine, in fact everything a big car has except a place to put gasoline.

Frank runs the auto with his feet, and he's as proud of his present as a man would be of a real car. Robert Haverfield wits here from down in the Healy country yester-dayday with a load of watermelons he brought up for Fred Ronies-burg. He says the melons down there this year are better than they have been for a long time. Haverfield called to renew subscription while in town and also to Insert an ad. for watermelons and potatoes and tomatoes which appears in this paper.

We had a very pleasant chat with George in our of ice Saturday. He is at present engaged with the Monument Works in Wilson. Merrill Cook went to Hutchinson last week to spend a few days at the home of his uncle, P. A. Shiney.

Weirs and Simmonses have re J. T. Peterson of Kansase City relatives and friends in Gove county the latter part of last week turned from a visit at Scotia. and in Jewell county, Kansas. It is as dry up there as it is here, they say.

and Mrs. Vernon Rhine and Florence Miss Ruth Cook has been there all summer and will return with Merrill before school opens. They will make the trip home in their uncle's auto. E. Wright and Ed Dodds of Fil-ley, were in Gove City Saturday.

They say that the country they traversed in coming here is badly in need of rain. The best corn they saw was along the Solomon river. The crops in Nebraska are about the same as here, they say. Mr. Wright Ellen spent Sunday at the home of at the home of Mrs.

S. Shirley will stop at Seneca, and Mrs. Geo. Shirley goes on to her old home in Missouri. Miss Ethel McConnell and Miss Hazel McConnell of Russell, visited here Sunday and Monday with the Trimmer and Claude Thomas families.

The girls are both schoolma'ams, Miss Ethel having charge of the fourth grade at Russell, and Miss Hazel being instructor in home economics at the LaCrosse High School.
