Mel Jennings is enjoying visit this week from a couple of nieces from Reading. Mark Dooty came home from Lebo Saturday in company with Glenn A. Blue, from whom he had purchased a new $135 Grafanola. Miss Sadie Richardson was down from Topeka for a Sunday visit this week to Mrs. A.R.

Starr and other Melvern friends and relatives. Observer R. L. Graham reports for the week ending 8-3-19, an average maximum temperature of and an average minimum of rainfall, .53 Vennor Crocker drove from Wellsville Sunday in his new Velie touring car. He was accompanied by his mother and his two daughters, Misses Thelma and Louise.

Misses Nellie and Helen Howe, whose home is with their Uncle and Aunt, Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Crawford, left last week for Oklahoma where they will spend a month with relatives.

Paul Neal has been suffering considerably on account of a severely festered finger. He went to the Hospital in Topeka last week where three operations have been made on the finger. A letter from Mrs. W. M.

Crawford of Pawhuska, Oklahoma, renewing her Review sub. scription, states that her mother, Mrs. H. Kelsey, is enjoying better health. She says they have, had no rain.

J. Roberts, who will be better remembered as Mrs. Eugene Locklin, is here this week from California making a visit to her niece, Mrs. Al Bailey and to other old-time Melvern friends. Mrs.

Chas. Johnson and her daughter, Miss Martha, of Olivet spent Sunday here with Mrs. Al Bailey. Mrs. Geo.

White was also in from the Boothe neighborhood to spend the week-end at the Al Bailey home. Mrs. J. C. Deister and daughter, Alese, who have been spending a week at the Max VanBuskirk home in Topeka, have returned home.

We note that Mrs. VanBuskirk and her baby boy, Robert Lindsey, are making a visit here this week. Mrs. S. S.

Mayes and danghter, Miss Hortense came in Saturday evenig to make a twoweeks visit to relatives and Melvern friends, planning to go to New Mexico for a furthur visit. In company with Mrs. M. Cochriel and Mr. and Mrs.

C. W. Ingels, they drove over to Eskridge Sunday for a visit to Mr. and Mrs. Dan Mayes.

A recent copy of "The Watch on The Rhine" sent from Germany by Cpl. Paul Crawford to his mother, Mrs. E. E. Crawford, who very kindly loaned it to us, contained an article refuting statements that have been started here to the effect that the boys are being held in Germany as punishment.

The article stated that "To have been chosen to remain longer than the rest is not a penalty for something of which we should be ashamed, but a distinction that is given because of former accomplishments." From The Waverly Gazette. Mr. Howell Lusk and Miss Ethel Bennett were united in marriage at the Methodist parsonage at noon Sunday, July 19 Rev. E. H.

Knepp officiating. The bride is a daughter of Mr. Hiram Bennett of this place and is an attractive and accomplished young lady. She graduated from the Waverly high school in 1918, since which time she has been the very efficient assistant in the post office where her pleasant, cordial manner won her univeral admiration. Mr.

Lusk is an industrious young farmer, who has lived most of his life near Olivet and during his frequent visits to Waverly in the last several years has won many 1 friends here. After the ceremony they drove to the Lusk home where a wedding feast was served. Their many friends will be glad to know that for the present they will make their home in Waverly. Here's wishing them a long land happy wedded life. Bennet-Lusk.
