Mjles City, Mont, March 14. Great destitution exists among the Cheyennes on the Rosebud and Tongue rivers. Agent Upshaw last fall caused the Indian beef cattle to be ta.ken over to Mallocks fork, on tho Crow reservation, three miles from Cheyenne agency, and nearly all drifted back to the range in Wyoming. This resulted most disastrously to the' Cheyennes and they have had no beef rations for six weeks. In the early part of last December the agent refused to receive any mpr.0 flour for the Indians until needed fprimmedu ate consumptipn.

After the great snow storm of January 1, no flour coujd be hauled to the agency. At that time the Cheyennes received the last rations of flour. Ohio. St. Louis, March 14. The Repub-. lican this morning says A railway official whose connection with the New York and Boston end of certain trans-Mississippi roads gives him the most excellent opportunities to know what is going on behind the curtain, said last night that notone would be surprised if, when the smoke of the Baltimore Ohio deal clear away fhe Atchison, Topeka Santa Fe i's found to be the owners.

It was asserted by this gentleman that tiations have been pending between Atchison, Topeka Santa Fe and Baltimore officials for more than six, months, and that the hitch in the deal last week was wholly due to the great party who wanted to defeat it because the Missouri Pacific did not like the idea of its most powerful and energetic rival controlling a contin-uous line of road from ocean to ocean. The Atchison plau was, it seems to secure the Baltimore Ohio through the Richmond Terminal company, bo that it could perfect its plans for reaching Staten Island under cover, but the uncovering of-the scheme will not defeat the origin nal purpose.
