I will sell at public auction 1-4 mile south and 1-2 mile cast of Rolla, commencing at 1 o'clock p. m. on into. The 1st Sargent now has two little girls visiting- him.

They will stay all night and go back on the train tomorrow. They are about 9 or 10 years old. We are having some nice weather now something unusual for this country. We have had so much lain that everyone can't help but appreciate the sunshine, and I often thought that if you had some of the rain that we are getting here over there it would be best for both countries. The farmers here have been working in the field now for some time and I see in the last day or two that some of them are making garden.

Friend Jim: business has slackened up a little for the day I thought I would take advantage of the opportunity and write you the few lines that I owe you. I guess I have told you that I am now Supply Sargent and I sure have my hands full. 01 course I am not the only one that is kept busy for everyone is on the move here, even the privates haven't time to do "bunk Drilling or target practice takes up most of their time. The army is not like it used to be; a person has to on the job more.

We have the privilege now of saying that we have been in the trenches. We have been there more than once how many times I probably hadn.t better say' for they might not let it go through. But I will say this much, Jim, if they give us more of a chance the next time we go in I am sure we will give a good account of ourselves, for the fellows are feeling fine and raring to go. The American soldiers are thought of here and especially the 16th. Thev think there is no regiment like us.

It don't seem like I have been gone almost a year; suppose that they are big kids now. I am going to write to Mr. Untie if you will send me his address. I suppose it is Englewood. this war as I consider it a privilege to be here, so good night to vou 1 0 with all the love I possess.

I have been working all day on the lines, building new ones. Il don't seem right to use French climbers, but I am getting used to them. S. A. Dear Kids: It has been more than a week since I last wrote you, but I was traveling last. Sunday and could nut verv well write. Have finished one course in school and ranked high enough to be on3 of the fortunate ones sent on an observation trip, so that is why I was traveling.

There were thirty-nine in the class and I came out second pat me on the back, won't you? Am on ground that was fought over but the Bosch have retreated far in the distance long ago. It is certainly shell pitted and there are millons of souvenirs, but I haven't picked up any yet am waiting for better ones. Iam in the midst of French officers of high rank and am treated like a king. Iam the first U. S.

officer to be sent here so you can imagine how they "carry me on a If I could talk more of their language I would appreciate them more; maybe I'll learn more of it after a while though. This tour will last until the 24th, after which I suspect I'll be assigned permanently to a regiment it will be. either that or an instructor in the school. Iam not particular which as both have disadvantages. I have not seen anyone I know, but believe me I search out each Yankee's face and try to see some mark by which I can recognize him.
