Tims we lose from the community a good citizen and neighbor; from the family a loving son and kind brother from the Church a devoted member; from the homo a devoted husband. All over the country, Death is doing his work. When we take into consideration the large number of deaths that have occurred in the counties of Southern Nebrask and Northern Kansas during the last four weeks, and tho number of fathers and mothers, husbands and wives, brothers and sisters and dear children, who mourn the loss of dear ones it makes us feel like we can see dark gloomy clouds of sorrow gathering and settling down upon us. It is recorded that tho Death Angel passed through Egypt when Israel was in bondage in that land, and every stroke of the death bell, every fresh grave, every procession heading toward the cemetry, every cold and silent form dressed for the tomb, and the sad wail of sorrow informs us that he is passing through ours. Careless men and women will you not try to be prepare 1 when he comes for you.

W. Hamilton appears in another column of this issue as a candidate for re-election to the office of Register of Deeds. Mr. Hamilton was elected two years ago and took charge of the office in January of last year. Ho had previously served for five years as a deputy under Mr.

Hallowell and Mr. Hoffman, and he understands the business of the office better than ony other man in the county. The records of the office are of such a nature, involving as they do the title to all the land in the county, that they require the most careful attention of an experienced man. These records are becoming more and more complicated every year, as new towns are laid oiit, aud additions are being made to old towns and the plats filed for record. The records in Mr.

Hamilton's office speak tor themselves, and he invites the most careful examination of them and comparison witli the records of any county in the stato. He and his wife, who serves as his deputy, are both excellent writers and they have employed only the best writers as clerks, so that the entire work that they have done, running as it has, through many large volumes, presents a neatness and accuracy seldom found in a register's office. This fact alone should be all the endorsement that he needs to assure his re-nomination, as it is to (lie interest of all the people in tho county to have these records in perfect shape. Aside from this, it has been almost the universal custom of the republicans of this county to give a faithful and competent officer the hon scarcely enough to pay him for neglect- insi his farm to attend to it.
