S. R. Williamson made a report of the Mothers meeting held in Kansas City, Kan. last week, where Mr. Spargo, of New York, and Mrs.

R. Kauf- man proposed plans by which funds could be raised for a piano for the building. Tea and wafers were served and (8 'was taken up toward the piano fund. Miss Jewett's pupils furnished the music. A Mother's Meeting was held Thurs- day afternoon at the Columbian school.

A very interesting and in- stru-tlv talk on eontaglovi and in- fectious diseases of children was given by C. C. Dennie, a senior at the Kan- sas Medical School. A committee consisting of Mia. J.

Fred Mrs. Chapman, and Mrs. W. Huntington was ap- pointed by the president Was son to ask the Board of Education to install sanitary drinking fountains The committee was also to ask that the school yard at Columbian be paved. The school children are forced to play upon the street in wet weather on account of themuddy con- dition of the grounds.

A social tea followed and a good time was enjoyed by all. Progressive Hive No 21, L. O. T. held public installation of officers last Wednesday afternoon, February 21, at Union Hall.

Chief Geary has charge and will no doubt be glad to have any -of the citizens call and see the equipment any time. We have waited a long time for the privilege of seeing our own department and we should avail ourselves of the opportunity at once. Mr. and Mrs.

They are now looking up a new location.

STREET SWEEPER. We have a fire department now and we should take up the street sweeper. It will only cost three hundred dollars and will save the city that much in a few months and also save -our new pavements. We have good streets and let us take" care of them. There was much dissatisfaction with the sprinkling last year.

As soon as the wagons drive over the sprinkled streetk a few times the dust is just as bad as before it was sprinkled, but if we had the streets cleaned there would be no occasion for dust. Our streets have been kept much better of late than ever before and all the citizens appreciate it. Let the good work continue. Entertainment A musical and literary entertainment will be given by Charity camp 1425, R. N.
