WOLF, Editor ALBERT JULIUS M'gr sion of the Supreme Council 111 Washington City, in April, 1866, he received the degrees of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, and on the 20th day of the month was Coroneted Honorary Inspector General by the Council. May 6th, 1868, he was Crowned Active Member of the Council, at Charleston, South Carolina. Brother Collins was an industrious worker in the various degrees of the Blue Lodge, and filled all the stations in his Lodge and Royal Arch Chapter. He was Junior Grand Warden of the Grand Lodge of Missouri in 1864, and Senior Grand Warden in 1865: Deputy Grand Master in 1866; Most Excellent Grand High Priest of the Grand Chapter of his State, in 1867; and Most Illustrious Grand Master of the IN MEMORIAM. Profound sorrow comes to the Supreme Council of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry for the Southern Jurisdiction of the United States.

Illustrious Brother, Martin Collins, 33 degree, Grand Prior of the Supreme Council, and Sovereign Grand Inspector General in Missouri passed from this life at his home in the City of St. Louis, on Monday, May 25th, 1908. The funeral services were held at the Scottish Rite Cathedral in St. Louis, on Wednesday, May 27th, 1908. Brother Collins was born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, May 15th, 1826, SO that at the date of his death he was eightytwo years and ten days old.

He was made a Master Mason in Rising Sun Lodge, Number 126, in Philadelphia, under special dispensation, about 1853; was made a Royal Arch Mason, in St. Louis ('hapter, Number 8, St. Louis, September 19th, 1860, and a Royal and Select Master in Saint Louis Council, Number 1, in 1860: was made a Knight Templar in Saint Louis Commandery Number 1, November 30, 1863. At a ses- Grand Council, Royal and Select Masters, 1869 and 1870. While our brother was a most zealous and enthusiastic member of the other Rite and gave it devoted and highly valuable service, it was in the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, that he rendered the most conspicuous and brilliant When he took up the Scottish Rite work in 1866, the Order was very weak in Missouri, but under his guiding hand for for years, it has grown in numbers and importance, until that great jurisdiction is second to none under our Council.

Grand Commander Pike chose well when he asked the Council to place the fortunes of the Rite in that State in his hands, and from their first meeting the relations between the two were the most cordial and confidential, and it is known that he was regarded by Brother Pike as one of his best, safest and most trusted coadjutors the great labor of spreading the Masonry of our Rite. His struggle was not an easy one, but being a man of undaunted courage, and a Mason of the profoundest convictions, he knew no such word as failure, and in the face of sharp cpposition, and sometimes bitter contentions, he defiantly bore aloft the Scottish Rite banner and lived to see his earnest efforts crowned with splendid success. During the period of his Active Service us Inspector General in Missouri, he saw the Rite grow from insignificance to a membership of over three thousand, with beautiful, commodious, and superb temples erected by the Rite and dedicated alone to its service in four of the most prosperous and wealthy valleys of our great jurisdiction. No other one Inspector General has ever done so much for the Rite. Our Brother never sought office in the supreme Council, but was content to see others occupy official position.

Nevertheless he was honored by his more than once by vote of the Council, and chosen to. high positions. After filling posts less conspicuous, he was, on October 16. 1893, elected Grand Minister of State, which office he filled until October 22. 1901, when he was chosen Grand Chancellor.

On November 1, 1907, the Brother filling the office of Grand Prior resigned, and he was appointed to the vacancy thus created, by the Kansas SARTIN, ESTATE, 'SINEW 169. 5 REAL Avenue, sauoud Minnesota 4708 636 P. W. GOEBEL, President A. C.
