2. THE SINGING SCHOOL BY A II RAM KIMMKLL. v. MISS OCEAN DAILY. MISS OCEAN DAILY.

Misa' Ocean Daily, who gives The singing school, oh, what a joy 'Twas there I learned when yet a boy To sing my do, and re, and mi, A solemn chant, a merry glee Yes in those happy days of yore, girls and boys, more than a score, Would join all in a chorus strong. Or in a merry, happy song The music yet I think I hear, And ever pleasant to my ear And now what of that art I know, And all due credit would bestow, The singing school I will confess Stands first and last of all the rest. Our teacher then was kind and good, And how to sing he understood. Pianos were in little use, A simple fork he would produce, And everyone would sound his key, Of do, or sol, and do, and mi, And sing his part clear through at sight, And every note would be just right. Italian words he did not know, Like largo, lento, con brio Just simple English he would use, And with us all he would infuse To alto, bass or any part, A way of singing from the heart.

Anatomy he had not learned, Nor was he in that art concerned Of tiachea glottis aught he knew For with such things he'd aught to do To him it was of little use To know just how tone was produced. Or where the larynx you'd locate, Or just its office or its fate, But all his rules would simple be, And made so plain that all could see. And thus, that everyone might hear, And to each one it would be clear, A rule he'd give Don't strain the voice up high or low, For then it harsh and rough will grow. But cultivate tones good and pure, And modulate precise and sure. Sit up quite straight, expand the chest, Open the mouth, for that's the best Way to produce tones full and round And have no harshness with' the found And then sing or ff, In any key or any clef.

Coda Of music now if aught I know, And all due credit would bestow, The singing school, I must confess, Stands first and last of all the resV for each pupil to appear before the public both in readings and dramatic work, thereby learning to apply the principles learned. Trouble Brewing. From all indications there is trouble brewing at the Kansas City, High School. The Senior class half a private or class instruction in elocution and dramatic art at the A. 0.

U. W. Hall, over Armour-dale Bank, Fourth and Kansas Avenue, has lately arrived from Lincoln, Neb. She is a graduate of the famous Emerson system of elocution taught in the Emerson School of Oratory at Boston, Mass, and in many of the leading schools of the hundred strong, are preparing to meet the faculty led by by G. E.

Kose, in battle. The unwritten law is that t.ie Seniors should speak mid-term oratory, but now they say won't orate 'cause don't have to." They got up a petition to the school board and Mr. Rose said he would help them. But on finding the petition useless, it is claimed that Professor Rose deserted them. Now this is not so, for Professor Rose is known throughout the state as an honest, fair-minded christian, and the best friend a pupil has in the school.

Some of the girls have decided not to write, cost what it may, while others are in favor of doing as they are United States and Canada. Miss Daily has the additional honor of having had the degree of ''Bachelor of Oratory" conferred upon her. She has an extensive and varied repertoire has won an enviable reputation both as a public reader and a teacher, and comes highly recommended. Miss Daily not only makes natural and forcible readers of her pupils, instructs them in physical and voice culture, Shakespeare's plays, pschology, anatomy, responsive gestures, Indian club swinging and drama-tic art. At the end.

of each month elocutionary contests are held and gold snd silver medals awarded to the successful Dramas arn n'so given by Miss Daily's thus affording ample opportunity told without lifting their hands in defense of mind or body. The majority of the class are in favor of fichtinir the svstem. claiming that in jail others of similar size that this is not done. Moreover, they claim ll they do this, it takes their time from other studies more valuable than oratory. The Juniors are also watching the i situation to spe what is the outlook for 1 them next year..
