PROBATE SI Jadge Torrance aud Father Millington of the Winfiold Courier, paved np the TJie Herald. THE BAIN I Will NOT be under-sold by any one In the business, on any and all kinds FARH MrM m. lf.1PLEf.lEflTS. JoeArmint, in company with Miss Anna Cunningham and Miss Ada Pope of Wichita, made the HintALD office a pleasant enll Sut urdsy The plat of Hill and Rocker's addition was filed for record in the office ot the Recorder of Deeds for Sumner county last Monday. We have had lots of ups and down in this world, but this is the' first time we ever bad for a business partner a "Roaming Catholic," at least we sup pose tin is, for we saw him paying court to a 'Pope" Tuesday oveniug.

J. Wade McDonald, of WinfiVM, was nominated for Congress for tho 3rd District at 'iritliita Wednesday on the firbt bulTot by tho Democrats; the vote standing 71 to 19. The nomination was made unanimous. Tie will give the particulars next week. The Demooratio torchlight procession at Wichita the 11th was a very tame affair when compared with the Re For this office there Is now only two candidates in the field In this county, Mr.

John P. Jouos and the present incumbent, Mr. Erana. Mr. ha boon closely identified with the best in teresta of the eounty for nearly nine years, and is probably as well qualified for this office as any man in the county.

Ho is lawyer by profession, "having been admitted to the bar at Wellington threo or fmr years ago. He will bring to this office, if tho Republicans of this county counclude that be 'is. the lest man for the office, not only an honest purpose and sound judgement, hut a lull legal knowledge of any and all points of law that may come up before him in any case that a Probate Judge should properly decide. Mr. Jono, and liis friends as well can point with just pride his record an officer of nearly five( years standing in this eounty as County Superintendent of Publio Instruction.

In that capacity he did more to bring our county up to the present efficient standard of common school work and perfect District organisation than any ten or twenty men iu the county, or any man in the county could have done. He is a man that cannot be controlled by a ring or clique of attorneys for their especial advancement, nor can he be bought or coerced-into deciding a-case contrary to tow or what he honestly thinks the law to be. Furthermore be is a square-toed Republican, and as such can always be relied upon. If nominated he will cany Sumner county by a larger majority than any man on the ticket. We reccommend his claims to the fair and just consideration of the Republican County Convention.

D-fve Badger has purchased three lots on Prathers addition for the purpose of constructing a commodious dwelling thereon before long. Hon. n. C. The Osage City Free Prest tells of the death of a lady recently af an unknown disease. A post mortuni examination was held of her remains, which disclosed the fact that the bones of her body were entirely rotten The thigh bones were like pieces of cork, and what should have been tho marrow was pus. The bones of her arms were as pliable as rope, and a portion of the bone near tho shonlder was entirely gone She had been sick nearly three years and suffered terrible pain. Judge George T. G. will be elected by a large" majority. He is one of our ablest educators and is a true Republican, even if ho does hail from Oxford, and is deserving of clue consideration and fair treatment by the convention. Wo loan money without commissions. We pay ASH for all kinds of grain.

Helbert Walton An exchange makes this sound sug- getion "Iu all towns where a newspaper is published, every business man should advertise in it, even if it is noth-1 ing more than a card stating his name and the business he is engaged in. It helps sustain the taper, and lets the people at a distance know that the towu is full ot business men. The paper finds its way to thousands of places where hand bills will never reach. A card in a paper is a traveling sign board, and can be seen by very render. Think of tbia and let your light shine." rom! to Wichita Monday evening.

We await tho denouement with bated breath and paled cheek, Hklrert Walton have money to loan on improved farms at low rates of interest and VERY little commission. Of all the evils prevalent among young men, we know of uono more blighting in its moral effects than to speak lightly of tho virtue ot women. Nor is there anything in which young men are so thoroughly mistaken, as to the Jow estimate they form of the con stancy and integrity of women'.

As a rule, no person who surrenders to this debasing habit is to be trusted with any enterprise requiring integrity and character. Plain words should be spoken on this point, for the evil is alarming'y and shamefullv prevalent. If young men are sometimes thrown into the so-oiety of fickle or depraved women, they have no more right to measure other women by these than they would have to estimate the character of honest nnd respectable citizens by the characters that figure in our criminal courts. Let our young men remember that their chief happiriebs depends in utter fiith in women." No wordly wisdom, no misun-thropio philosophy can cover nr wvaken this fundamental truth. It stands like the record of God itself, for it is nothing less than this and should put an everlasting seal upon lips that are wont to speak disparagingly of the.
