John Maxson, one of the angels of this office, met with a painful accident last Friday morning. John has a habit of coming to the office and starting a'fire long before Old Saul has shown his smiling face above the eastern horizon.

One of the neighbors had stretch ed a clothes line fcr convenience across John's right-of-way. Before reaching this cloths-line John had an open strip of country with a lit tie down grade. There being a stiff northwest wind, John had the throt tl- thrown wide open and had gained a terrific rate' of speed when he met the clothes-line half way. The facts are he met it more than half way as it caught him just under the chin. The lower part not knowing any thing had happened to the other eml kept on its way toward the offi ce, but finally winding up with John trying the "skin-the-cat" deal.

As the diameter of the wire was to much smaller.than anything on which John had ever performed he lost his hold arid landed on the frozen ground somewhere between the barn and' wood-shed. The. result was one shoulder bruised," a wrist sprained face skinned, and feelingsbadly ruf fled. The following is the supposed one-sided conversation that took place: Any blankety-blank man that will stretch a blankety-blank wire across ones pattv'should be' where there are no northwest winds, but where the thermometer registers summer heat the year around. total Dappuitegs.
