Good fell. She said that she cotild not toll who it was on tho outside who fired tho shots and she could not tell the voices.

She remained in Iho room until morning with McMillen. At day break she left and went down to the Buck house. She swore positively that before any shots were tired from the outside Good fired one shot and tho kid two shots from the inside of the building. Fred McMillen, the boy who was in the room with Good and tho girl, next testified. He is only nineteen years of age and his parents reside at Wellington, Kansas.

Ho gave his testimony in frank, straightforward man ner and evinced no desire to hide or screen any one. lie testified that when Good, the girl and himself had entered the building just prior to the killing, the two Miner bovs were about half a block away coming to ward them. After they had passed into the back room two men came up to thejjl window. He could not see him but he recognized them to be the boys by their voices. Bob Minor called tho girl twice and she did not answer.

Then Good spoke up and said she would not come out. Whereupon two shots were fired and Good foil. The witness took his revolver and shot the light out. He got behind a trunk where he and tho girl remained about an hour. About an hour after the murder a man came up to tho window.

It was Bob Miner. He commenced to throw pebbles in the window and the witness fired two ehots at him. He then went away. In company with the girl McMillen remained behind the trunk until day light when he gave the alarm. He was sure that Bob Miner fired one of the two shots which killed Good.

The balls which were taken from Good's body are not alike. One evidently came from a Winchester and the other from a revolver. THE rRI80NEa'8 RETURN. When Miner reached Horace a large crowd gathered around him, but he was quickly hustled into tho hotel by the posse. All afternoon the people were excitod and as the inquest progressed it was understood that a mob was being organized to hang the murderer.

Information to this effect reached the officers and they took their prisoner across the street to the Main Street hotel. After 7 o'clock a large mob com menced to gather in front of the hotel and for a time things looked omni- ou8. uut the crowd lacked a loader and nothing was done. About 10 o'clock the crowd commenced to dis perse and then tho parties who had in the afternoon arranged to usher Miner into eternity from the end of a rope suspended from the Horace wind mill commenced to gather in the streets. It lacked ten minutes of the timo when as per arrangements the at tempt was to be mado to get the pris oner when something was heard that put an end to the necktie party.

"The prisoner has been smuggled away," was the cry that went up and down the street This created great excitement and in five minutes twenty teams were searching the surrounding country. The prisoners and the possee had but ten minutes the start of the searchers, but darkness assisted them and they succeeded in hiding themselves effectually. At this writing tho whereabouts of the prisoner and the officers are unknown. THE MUBDEHED MAN. Erastus Good, the murdered man, was one of the oldest residents of Greeley county.

He came here som two years ago and made the county his home. Ho was a member of the O. O. 5'. Personally, he was a genial, pleasant gentleman, generous and kind-hearted to a fault.

His parents and relatives reside at Grenola, Elk county, Kansas, where his body was shipped Wednesday. EN ROUTE TO SYRACUSE. The posse which rescued Miner, the murderer, from the mob, after leaving Horace came to Tribune. They wore closely pursued but hid in tho basin of the classic Whitewoman until the coast was clear and the pursuers gone. They then proceeded southeast about four miles.

At the claim of olin 1L Owen they procured a team and proceeded south. The last heard from they were going in the direction of Syracuse. School Meeting. At a meeting of the voters of the Tribune school district at tho school house on last Tuesday the following officers were elected for the ensuing year: J. L.

Vanlandingham, director; Robert Pringle, treasurer; J. TJ. Brown, clerk. A two per cent tax for school and incidental purposes was levied. Quite a large crowd gathered at the race track last Saturnay to witness a test of speed between the horses owned by Frank Joy and Mr.

Bre-count. The race was to have been for 300 yards for $25 a side, but tne backers thought it safer to "crawfish," and the race was therefore indefinite ly postponed, much to the dissatisfaction of the spectators. Abstracts opTitle. LINNET HAV7KIN3. 1 or cheap deeded land call on or write 1L J.

vir. FRIDAY, September, 2, 1SS7 i Krastus Good Killed in Cold Iilod. HE IS SHOT WHILE IN HIS OWN ROOM. The Deed ia All Probability the Work of Two Men. Convincing Proof That Robert Miner Fired One of The Shots That Sent the Murdered Man into Eternity.

Miner is Captured and Narrowly Escapes Lynching. The Officers Very Cleverly Elude the Mob. The Whole Affair Brought About by a Woman. Win. Miner Probably Implicated in the Hellish Work.

A Full and Complete Detail of the Facts in the Case. Between tho hours of one and three on Tuesday morning last Erastua Good, ouo of the oldest citizen of Greeley county, was shot and almost instantly killed by one Robert Miner. The terrible deed was committed in Horace in the sleeping room of the murdered man. The shots were fired from the outside through a window. Two balls entered Good's body.

One entered an inch or so below the right nipple, passing entirely through the body, cutting off the apex of the heart and lodging just inwde tho skin on the left The other ball entered above the left nipple and passed through tho base of the lungs and lodging in the neck. Either wound would havo produced almost instantaneous death. There were present in the room at tho time of tho murder one Frod McMillen and a girl named Kate Adair. When tho first phot was fired through tho window Good was facing it. When it struck him he turned around and the Becond shot was fired almost instantaneously.

Ho then fell to tho lloor and expired. His last words wore addressed to the boy McMillen. Ho said: "Kid, take my gun, I nm dono for." McMillen obeyed. Reaching down ho took tho revolver and with one shot he extinguished the lam p. Ho and the girl Kate then got behind a trunk which was in one corner of tho room where they remained until daylight.

They gave no alarm whatever fearing Miner would aim his death dealing revolver at them if they did so. At daylight iho boy gave tho alarm and the news spread over the city. After committing the deed Miner did not at once fly but ho remained about the building until daylight. He evidently desired to kill McMillen and tho girl before he left When the sua came up however he fled carrying with him a Winchester and his revolver. He was armed to the teeth and had plenty of ammunition.

Striking the prairie he walked northwest from Horace and finally took rofuge in a deserted dug out two miles northwest of Lombard. As coon as the alarm was given a poaso was at onoo organized to pursue the murderer. He was seen to leave the city and was followed by his pursuers at quite a distance. In this instance distance led enchantment because Miner's Winchester was reported to bo an excellent weapon and he could have easily picked a man off at a distance of half a mile. When he took refuge in the dugout the posse surrounded it and overtures were made to him to surrender.

For live or six hours ho refused but about 12 o'clock he gave in. Protection was fferod him and he gave himself up. He was thon driven back to Horace in carriage and confined in a room, strongly guarded in the Horace hotel. In the meantime Acting Coroner Goodin, of Lombard, took possession of the remains. A jury was impaneled and at one o'clock an inquest was held over the remains.

Drs. Moore and Wisehart succeeded finding the deadly balls after considerable trouble. Both had flattened out whero they had come in contact With the bone. The first witness examined at the inquest was the girl Kate. Her testimony was of no material benefit as far as giving any light on the case was concerned.

She showed an evident dasiro to shield the murderer. In appearance she is far from preposessing. he in 16 years old, with light hair and deep blue eyes. In stature she ia rather heavy and it is easy for one to see that she is lacking in education. During the inquest she con ducted herself in a most brazen manner.

Laughing and talking with Home pnrties wim wnom sne was- acquaintedall this too, while in the back room lay stiff and cold in death man whoso untimely decease she had caused, It was quite plain that though she was but 16 years of age fcho wiis hardened to sin and vice. In answering questions she spoke re luctantly and dowly. She testified that there was no ill feeling existing between the murdered man and Miller. That on the other hand they were tho best of friends. She detailed tho account of the shooting in this v.iy Good, Mr-Mi 1 1 en nod erfctlf had juit-u-: the back room.
