The Si believes the Judge to be a broad minded, unprejudiced jurist, and considers the winnings of the Center papers, because the, decision in the county seat case was against them, mere child's play. Since the war, he hits been one of the lirst statesmen of the land. Whether in the front of battle or at the head of political hosts, he was ever bold, fearless anil aggressive. Those suspicions of dishonesty and self-aggrandizement which have lurked around so many of our statesmen since the war, were never breathed against John A. It is useless to speak of tho possibilities that, lay before him, had he lived another decade, but death, the relentless avenger, ha seen lit to cut him down in the prime of his manhood and iu the vigor of years.

That was the best 1 could do, and I thought better that than nothing. Caswell is about tlead with consumption and 1 fear that collecting from him is a hopeless matter, There is (juite a disposition here at this time to consolidate Saratoga and Pratt Center. The Center is giving lots to any one that will move a building from here on the lot. Shall 1 move your house if I can get a good lot over there to put the house on? I think it the best you can do. By doing that you can save your property and eventually get some money out of it.

Let me hear from you at once. Very 'Truly, J. Bowman. Here is this "Pratt county" gentleman who has been posing before the people as possessed of such high traits and tine-haired morals, trying by misrepresentations to non-residents, to undermine his own town and neighbors. Here is the man who has so persistent ly claimed that he was for Saratoga, proved a hypocrite and falsifier by his own act in writing.

While the honorable, upright citizens of Saratoga have been working with untiring zeal for this town's best interests, right in their midst has been and still is a "wolf in sheep's clothing," in short, a traitor to their interests, a spy in their camp. Whatever his "other qualification, he has assumed this role and deserves treatment accordingly. Those to whom he has talked against the bond propositions south-east of here, will know where the animus of it comes from. It is merely the Center working through their pliant tool. Paul Trultt P.

In this connection, the question suggests itself, of what utility are our $10,000 water works in case of fireP We have a wind-mill, an imposing looking tank, there is an alleged well and the mains are laid. But tbe most essential element necessary to the extinguishment of a fire, namely, water, seems to he, wanting. It scums to us that some provision should be made at once to furnish it. The $10,000 already Invested is money thrown away unless something is done to provide water. If it requires another appropriation it will cost no more to makeitatonetime than another.
