Mils Eliza Edmund's school closed last Friday giving good satisfaction to all her scholars, and the little folks walked up and said their speeches the last day in the afternoon, for which they were treated to cakes and beautiful presents for good attention and reward of merrit. Many compliments were shown to her for her kindness to the children of tho district.

The croquet party and ico cream supper that tho Sand Draw boys gave, was a grand sucess, After satisfying themselves at croquet, Tom Hendricks furnished the boys and pretty girls with some fine music, whilo they "tipt the light fantastic" till 11 P. M. There was about twenty-five couple present Go to Blackhawks for all the water melons you want to eat. One ot our oldest citizens trotted in double harness Saturday for the first time. H.

J. W. and the boys jingled him up a batch and he came out and whacked up like a little man. They all wished him much happiness and they all went home rejoicing. Miss Edmonds has been boarding at Plummer Ranch while teaching school.

She is attending the Institute this week. Tom Plummer and G. W. Kitsmiller have gone west. Expect them back soon.

J. Johnston and Win. Parhman. of Cheney, the former a brother-in-law of Temple were the city the first of the week. They were on a prospecting tour and are very much impressed with the future outlook for Saratoga.

All those intending to participate in the ionic festivities at Tully on next Thursday are respectfully invited to meet at the school house at 7 o'clock on the morning of the 25th. Whitman, who is canvassing the city for "Twasinta's Seniinoles or the Rape of Florida," by Albery A. Whitman, the only colored poet living. Mr. Whitman is a brother of tho Whitman's south of town and has come to this country to remain The book is a meritorious work and should be taken by all. The lady in formed us that she was meeting with good success.

First Baptist Church of Sstrntoga, Kans. On the loth of 1880, the First Baotist church of Saratoga, was organized by Elder J. P. Ash, with 14 members, the result of three days zealous effort upon the oart of the elder, assisted bv Bro's. B.

Put man, P. L. Nelson and A J. Freeman. A Baptist Sabbath school was also organized! by the elder and a neat library secured from the American Baptist Publication Society.

Elder Ash drew crowded houses and enlisted groat interest in the work of making a new plant in the Baptist vineyard. The new church organization, applied for immediate recognition, a council was convened at Saratoga, on the afternoon of the IGth of August, 188G, for that purpose, consisting of Elder J. P. Ash, as state missionary of the American Baptist Publication Society; Rev. P.

L. Nelson, pastor of the Goshen Baptist churh, of Pratt county; Rev. B. Putnian of tho Lyons' Baptist church; Rev. A.

J. Freemn, a former member and deacon of the Iuka Baptist church of Pratt county and Brother A. D. Cole of the Goshen church of Pratt county, all presenting their credentials the council was organized by the choice of Rev. B.

Putnian as moderator and J. H. D. Rosan, clerk. The recognition of the church was then voted upon, carrying unanimously.

At night, after a fine sermon by the elder, public recognition was made of the church, Rev. B. Putnian delivering the charge and Rev. P. L.

Nelsen, giving the hand of fellowship. A tine location for the church edifice has been secured and the Trustees, John Travis. Alexander Nickerson, N. W. Magruder.

Excursion trains will be run to the Emancipation celebration to be held in this city on Sept. 22d. The Baptist Sunday school con venes Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock. All are invited to attend. J.

Kelsey went to Medicine Lodge last Wednesday in company with the Rev. J. P. Ash. As near as can be ascertained track laying will bo completed to this place by tho 5th of September.

Arrangements will be made for a grand jollification on the completion of the railroad to this place. A building and loan association has been organized in this city and will soon be in shape to operate. The kids of this place and Pratt played another game yesterday afternoon, which was quite interesting. mere wilt no a game ot ball on the 22d of Sept. between the Saratoga nine and the colored club of Wichita.

Frank Cross left at this office some very fine specimens of onions, in fact the finest we have seen in this county. Quarterly meeting of the Wichita district will be held in this city Satur day and Sunday, the 21st and 22d inst Mr. and Mrs. Freeman, of Iuka township, were in attendance at the Baptist Sunday School convention last Sunday. All Sunday school children are re quested to meet at the school house on Thursday morning next, at 7 o'clock sharp.

W. P. Yarger, of La Porte county, but recently from Kingman county came iu last night and will spend few days with friends here. Mr. Pebernat, who has been in the employ of W.

W. Ross for some thm has opened a shoe shop on him street, next door to L. I). Hess Co. 1 he Kinsley branch of the Santa Fe lias been turned over to the operat ing department and regular passenger trains are now run over that line.

1 red Meissner, Jr. of La Porte, was in town a short time Monday. He was on lus way east alter taking quite an extended business trip through the west part of the state. The revival meetings at George town are still in progress and the in terest is still unabated. There were eleven emersions on last Sunday and there will be several more next Sabbath.

The Rev. Chas. Thompson, who has been holding a series of meetings at Georgetown, held a very interesting meeting at the U. B. church last Friday evening.

Quite a large crowd were in attendance. A game of ball will be played here on the 27th between the home nine and the Bates team. This being the last of the series of games between the two teams, it will undoubtedly be very interesting. Mr. and Mrs.

Kibby, of Indiana, who have been engaged to teach in our public schools arrived in the city Monday from Iuka, where they have been attending, tne institute and are stopping at the Ulitton House. I J. II. D. Rosan is having erected a wind mill with a 40 foot tower.
