In the settlement of this matter due precaution should be taken that we do not place ourselves in the same positions as those occupied by our sister counties to-day. We think much of this ill feeling and trouble of adjoining counties, and others have grown out of the fight of the county offices, and can be avoided by the farmers of the entire county nominating a county ticket choosing, men best suited for the positions from all parts of the county. A strickly farmers ticket irrespective of towns. We understand that Reid has put a Peoples (solid Reid) ticket in the field. We think it is early for this work and again shows a very selfish motive.

Itinvites Tribune and Horace to put their tickets in the field which compels neighbor to fight neighbor just for the office. We can recall many instances where such troubles were not easily settled. Again the farmers are the ones who have to make this country that any of us may stay here so if there is any assistance to be derived from the offices let him have them. We want to support a farmers ticket, a ticket of the farmer, by the farmer and for the farmer. Our officers should be servants of the people and not mere tools for town companies.

We would like to hear from others on this subject. Citizen. MAKE YOUR FINAL PROOF meets every 1 ucsday Might. Hilling baotliers cordially invited. C.

Business is lively and everyone is happy since the late rains. Rev. Hestwood preaches the first Sabbath of each month at the Colokan school house at 10 o'clock A. M. We heartily endorse brother "Incog's" views in regard to the Republicans organizing.

Also put out a straight Republican ticket. Let it' not be said that Greeley county will fly from the Republican track, like old Horace Greeley did in 1872. A dastardly and cowardly act was committed at Colokan last Saturday week. While the boys were playing a quiet and peaceable game of base ball, the Brown click, who live just across the line on the trail, five in number, came over to Colokan. Two of the men quietly walked up to one of the men who was playing ball, and one of the men introduced the other man as a friend of his that had just come out from Indiana.

The stranger reached out his left hand to shake hands and knocked down the ball player with his right, while the other four Brown click drew their revolvers and kept the crowd away, while the stranger gave the ball player quite a severe thrashing. They then jumped into their buggies and drove off. We now have a justice of the peace and a constable in the colony, and if said parties are caught they will be severely dealt with according to law.
