A good many are through planting corn. Plenty of ground squirrels hero for sale cheap. Mr. John WiJel is talking of going to the mountains in a few days. Mr.

John Oaks has purchased Mr. La-cy's stable and is making a cave. Tim Gorsueh has come to the conclusion that squirrel poisou is a little too strong for chickens. Most of our farmers arc nearly through planting gardens, and are looking for a little rain to start the sod. Cecil McDaniels is very much pleased over the appearance of a nice young colt nt his premises a few days ago.

Mr- Stickler is building a nice residence 2 1 ft. square, on his farm adjoining the west line of this township in 17-41. Messrs Stanard and Widel purchased some choice fruit trees at Horace Satur day, and aro planting orchards on their farms. Gus Dclps, after devoting a good deal of hard labor with tho spado, hoe and garden rake, has a nice layed out garden of about five acres planted in good shape. S.

Parish and family have been on the sick list for a few days, but are now so as to work as hard as ever We understand that H. E. Stanard has purchased an organ for his daughter Nora. I wonder if wo can't hear a little music now to cheer our lonely bachelorhood? Mr. Wagnor has been trying bachelor's life tho past winter and Cuds it too lonely.

Ho will move his family out this week from Tribune, where they have been living all winter attending school. A good many of our oldest and most experienced farmers claim that we have a number one so'l here for small grain, such as winter wheat, rye, etc. I think it would be a good plan for us all to give it a thorough trial this coming season. Frank Merriam has just received the long looked-for cancelation papers on tho northwest quarter of section 26, and starts for WaKeeney Thursday, the 26, to file on the same. This piece of land will make Frank a good addition to his pre-emption.

llamil has returned to his homestead. Hugh is a good boy and still clings to Horace for county scat. Mr. Qaul'ey has not been very well for the last few days. We hope he will soon be in hla usual health again.

It looks as If we have two assistant school superintendents. Spangler, appointed by the officers at Syracuse, and Mr McGce, appointed by the officers at Kendall. Both of these are good men and cither will give satisfaction. When in Horace a few days ago I called on Clark and McGinnis. They have a fine assortment of goods, are pleasant and accommodating.

They did well in securing Mr; Crawford for a clerk, he is well liked by all who know him. Some would like to have the people bwlleve that should Horace secure the county seat, that they would make the county pay for the water works. Such uouseusel Do the people in the towns think that all of the people in the countv are num skulls. It is surprising the amount of crop tho colony is putting in. Mart is a smart boy, and being attentive and obliging in manner will make a good and drawing salesman. Bolinger contemplates the establishment of a newspaper in Stuart Colorado soon, and knowing his qualifi cations for such work, we think the enterprise will be a lucrative one to him, and a boomer for Stuart.

Frank White, of Pueblo, is now at the head of the culinary department of the Horace House, and tho guests are beginning to take extended exercises daily to keep from having the gout.
