At the age of eleven years, he gave himself in holy consecration to the service of that Saviour about whom he loved to hear, and united with the First Baptist Church, and lived an exemplary chris tian life ever after. He suffered long and much, and for the last eight months of his life he was confined to his bed. Uncomplainingly he bore alljhis suffering, trusting In the promises of his Saviour, and died in the full assur ance of "a blissful To the living, he speaks in the language of the poet; "Remember, friend, as you pass by, As you are now, so once was I.

As 1 am now, you soon will be; Prepare for death, and follow me." Suitable funeral services were held at the home of his parents, conducted by y. H. D. Herr and the undersigned, and at Manhattan, by the pastor of the First Baptist Church of which he was of late a member. Thus another pil grim has fallen before the ruthless scythe of time.

Another family has been broken up by taking the last plant from its garden. The arbiter of time, it seems, has laid the hand of affliction heavily upon this family, all the tender plants having drooped and died, yet, to you, stricken parents, we say, weep not, the soul has gone to God who gave it; and ere long, comes the Resurrection, when life will bloom anew, and when s-lorv will unfold its dazzling light to vouand your loved one. Mrs. J. C. Sparks knows just how to arrange a millinery stock in a beautiful manner, as was illustrated in the taste manifested by the elegant display of new goods at her grand opening, on last Wednesday. Mrs.

Sparks is a Milliner of no ordinary note, and carries a stock of goods, a credit to any town. She has that peculiar "knack" of buying the right styles, at the right time. A large number cf ladies, both in Chapman, and from the country, visited her place during the day and highly commented upon her elegant line of silk gauze ties, real oriental, gempure, and Spanish laces, etc. Her stock of ladies furnishing goods is complete, well selected, and low in price. Mrs.

Sparks has a large and spacious store room, well lighted, and containing an immense, and complete stock of novelty goods, and millinery; all of the latest styles, and fashions being represented. M.E. Serial. On Tuesday evening, the appointed time for the social at Mr. Baker's, a large company of young folks, both married and single, were driven out to Mr.

Ba ker's by Mr. Fred Randall, with his four horse team. There were twenty-four of us in the band wagon, and don't you forget it we had a "picnic." On our ar rival at Mr. Baker's we were warmly welcomed by all the members of the family. After spending a short time at various amusements, a splendid supper was served, which, perhaps, no one enjoyed more than your humble servant.

After another period of enjoyment, we returned, all expressing them selves as having had a fine time, and that Mr. Baker's was the place where no one could help but feel welcome and enjoy themselves..
