We have received a understood that we do not whip for fun and that, we shall not foliow the advice of a parent who suggested that we "should whip so as not to hurt." The conduct of your children has been most exemplary.

We have never mentioned anything in these columns as to conduct, because we have expected none but good. No greater calamity can happen to a pupil than to receive encouragement from his parents, in wrong-doing. I have been in the school room 18 years and never knew a pupil unjustly punished, but have seen hundreds who deserved and never received it. So let me ask, on behalf of teachers everywhere, that you make up your mind once for all that the chances are 1000 to 1 that your child needed a reprimand before he received one.

One person whose child was punished, informed me that had he known the fact, the boy would have received another at home. The boy has changed lie will need; no more punishment. I know that you have more interest in your own child than any one else, and you no doubt know his good qualities better than the teacher. Is it not possi-sible that you are more blind to his bad tiaits?
