Greeley county is having the same fight against an extravagant board of commissioners that has just terminated in this county. C. to the Kansas City Times of April 16: J. W. Gregory of Garden City, who has been in Washington for the past three months in the interest of irrigation started for the west this evening. Con gress recently ordered an investiga tion into the subterranean water supply available for irrigation between the 97th and 104th meridians and Judge Gregory who has made a special study of the un derflow water of the Arkansas, Platte and Canadian river region for many years past, and from the development of which he predicts great things, has been place in charge of the field work between the 35th and 43rd parallels and from the 97th meridian to the 103d.

This takes in western Kansas and Ne braska, eastern Colorado, the Neutral strip, a part of Indian Territory, the Texas Panhandle and northeastern New Mexico. Every Kansas man should have his local paper, for homo nows and a paper from the capital of the state. Give this coiublnuton trial. faction with the slow progress made by congress toward a settlement of the irrigation question, but regards this official investigation as a long and important step in the right direction, and admits that the irrigation problem is receiving a fair share of attention, considering how imperfectly its impor tance is understood and realized. Gar den City Seutinel. The following was tuken from the proceedings of the county commissioners of Sherman cnumy as miblished iu th Goodland News, the otilcial paper of that county J.

H. Tait was ordered to pay into the the county treasury 118 for fees re ceived by him while in office and also the sum of $55 balance on treasurers account. Ge. W. Bensen was ordered to pay in $137.50 tor fees received while in office.

O. U. Smith was ordered to pay for fees collected in office. The chairman of the board was empowered to bring suit to protect county funds or collect money due the county. The special committee was ordered to make a thorough investigation of the office of district ccurt.

The Goodland News was made the official paper of Sherman county for the remainder of the year 1890 at 20 cents per square. J. H. Tait was treasurer in 1886, Geo. W.

Bnson was county clerk in 1886 and O. II. Smith was couuty clerk ir '88. "The mills of the gods grind slow" but sure, and we feel that there is quite a grist in Greeley that should be sent to the mills when the people begin to fn-quire as to the where abouts of the county funds. From reading the above proceedings it would seem that they have an honest board of commissioners In Sherman county, what a treat that must be indeed! Kansas State S.

S. Convention. The twenty-fifth annual convention (silver anniversary), of the Kansas State Sunday School Association will be held at Hutchinson, on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, May 22d, 23d, and 24th. A cordial and genarous invitation is extended by the citizens of Hutchinson to the Sabbath School workers in every coun ty in state. It is hoped sot less than five delegates will be sent by each county.

Entertainment will be. furnished dele gates. Great preparation are being made, and this promises to be the grandest convention ever held in the state. No Sabbath school worker should fail to attend. Prof.

Excel, the finest solo singer in the country will have charge of the music; Mrs. Mattie M. Bailey, of Iowa, one of the ablest Primary and Normal instructors aud platform speaker in the north-west, and the leading Sunday School speakers of her own state, will be 'present. All delsgates should write to the chairman of the Committee of Arrangement, Geo. Bourne, Hutchinson, giving their nam and residence, ten days before the csn vention meets.

Reduced railroad rates will he givcu to all who attend. Programs will be issued and distributed in a few days. Labor and pray for the success of the convention; come full of hope, and with a silver offering; and you will return with blessings, and scatter enthusiasm, zeal, and knowledge throughout your county.
