What is anarchy? 'Tis chaos; Bred by base contempt of law; Not the civil statutes only, For they gruesome pictures draw, The promoters of life's friction, Moral statutes they disdain! Striking ever. notes of discord, Satiating terror's reign. WHAT IS ANARCHY? Oh! ye shades, from out perditionOut of joint with Sowing to the winds, sedition, Rev'ling in calamity, As the vulture, so ye fatten, On the bodies of the slain; Gloating o'er the wreck and ruin, Strewn athwart life's surging main! Surging, as in strife of battle, For the bread oppression doles, Which but feeds the dumb brute nature Whilst are starving, human souls! Children in Black breakers. In the fact'ry's fetid den, Schooled in drudging toil which shrivels Crushes out your souls in sin! Anarchy, as gravitation, Levels down- subduing all; None so high. so great their station None so proud but they may fall; Though the mighty peaks of granite Bear their heads in proud disdain, Their dead weight and times erosion Lay them crumbling, grain from grain Human souls--by law of physicsAre not held within the mire By volition of their nature.

But would mount to something higher Nor by strife of competition, Mounting o'er the dead and maimed; But. by sane co-operation Are the top-most heights retained. Competition's vast enter in For the prize: to win means freedom From oppression and its din. Few there are, who from the conflict, Rise to heed the fierce encoreBut. their hands are dripping, reeking, Foul with fratricidal gore! Competition's anarchistic! For material wealth, insane, Men bow at the shrine of MammonBreaking hearts and racking brain! Competition's anti the viper of the world; Once its coils entwine a nation, Anarchy's red flag's unfurled! -Charles H.
