Francis Hospital at Wichita after an illness of six days. Hisdeath cist an airof sadness over the entire neighborhood and the tragi; circumstances that sur rounded the closing of his brief life made a profound impression on everybody. Ho was just 14 years old and had ached that ago when life has fewest cares and greatest hopes. He was dutiful a'nd obedient at home, at school he was a favorite ard in lain were the hopes and ambition of two fond parents. The first to succumb was Dayton Hoover who had been ill for some time. He had a complicated case (if pk'iiro pneumonia and the seat of the trouble was in the right lu njr.

Dr. Welsh and Dr. Stallard did all they could to relieve their patient, but Mr. Hoover had been a suli'erer from asthma a long time and his efforts to breathe caused so much irritation to the aflVctod lung that it was a difli-cult case to handle. Dispite the gravity of his condition, the attending physicians iwer lost hopt until hemorrhage set in Sat urday morning.

Then the. end soon came. The second and the most unexpected death was thai of Weyman Wells. Every precaution available to the local surgeons had been taken in setting he bones of his arm. the case was eareiuiiy watched.

lie manifested a great deal of nervousness but it was attributed tt) the shock. The unloosed for" happened Friday even ing when he showed symptoms of tetanus or lock-jaw. Anti-tox- ine was used and he was hurried to "Wichita where an operation on the arm was performed. Reme dies nor operation did no good. He died within two hours.

About 0 o'clock Sunday even ing Fred Deubler was found dead in his bed in his room over the State Bank. Fred had been in bad health for sometime. He had gotten some better and had been doing a little work as he could stand it; but the habit that had ruined his life brought on 'anoth er attack', and, alone in his room with a book in his hand, his heart ceased, and another. hose faults were the worse to himself passed into eternity. His daughter at Carthage, was telegraphed; but as no answer came and as conditions were bad he had to be buried early Monday forenoon.

Cynthia, the 10-year-old daught er of John Martin who lives near Kiowa, died in the hospital at An thony Monday morning following an operation for what was supposed to be appendicitis. The operation revealed a large ab scess and it was soon seen that there was no hope for her recovery. She rallied from the operation but died after the lapse of 24 hours. She was buried at Kiowa. A badger broke in Mrs.

Fanny Hyatt's chicken house Thursday night and was making things live ly among the members of the poultry family. Mrs. Hyatt heard the noise and went to see what was the matter. His badgership was not easily frightened away from so much good company, so he retreated a-bout 20 yards and waited. Mrs.

Hyatt thought of many ways to head him olT and finally hit upon morphine. She put some thing like a half-ounce in an egg and placed the egg where his badgership would get it first thing when he should return. He returned alright and devoured the egg and that badger is not expected, to wake up for years. Scotland County, Missouri, Janu ary and died at Hazelton, uansas, nno i r.uo, ageu years, months, and VI days. When he was six years old his parents moved to Maimi County, Kansas, when? he grew to man hood on the farm.

On November 10. lO'K), he mar ried Miss Pearl Harbison and to them were born four girls. In 1001 he moved to Hazelton, bought land and up to his death was one of its substantial citizens. Mr. Hoover was an honest energetic young man that had seen much of this world's tojl and hard ships.

As he told the writer some week's before his death, he had worked hard on the home farm to clear it of debt, and had seen few idle hours since coining to Harbcr County. Havingpurchas-i'd his farm part on time, he denied himself many pleasures that he might the sooner have a home free from incumbrance, so he worked hard early and late and had gotten things in good shape and had moved to town to enjoy the fruits of his years of toil when he was stricken down with the disease that ended in his death. He was a member of the Christian Church and was buried in Kose Hill Cemetery Sunday, June 10. Rev. Von Schriltz conducted the funeral services.

W. R. Williams. R. J.

Dunbar. Committeeman. C. Alford. So far, the Republicans have made out no township ticket; and as far as the Herald is concerned it is frank to say that it cares little whether any ticket is arranged.

Polities amount to nothing in township races except to the part isan; and as the above ticket is a good one, taken as a whole, the Herald doesn't care if the whole ticket is elected. Harvest is bringing many Wichita parties to Hazelton this week. Among those who have come down to help in taking care of the big wheat crop are Frank and Jay Eastman and S. N. Wible The latter being interested in threshing more than in harvesting.

Frank Pattison will "bach" the Edwards Store building. in "i'vyvvvv' at homo a mute evidence of the first victory of the boy in whom were the possibilities of many more. Wayman was well liked and high ly respected by all who knew him, and as a tribute of respect 11 business houses were closed during his funeral. Funeral services were conduct ed by Rev. VonSehriltz at the Christian Church, and the burial was at Rose Hill Cemetery.

We miss thee from our home, dear brother. We miss thee from thy A shadow o'er our life is cast, We miss the sunshine of thy face.

We miss thy kind and willing hand, Thy fond and earnest care, Our home is dark without thee, We miss thee everywhere. Friends and physicians could not save His mortal body from the grave Nor can the grave confine him there When God shall call him to appear. Grandma. CARD OF THANKS. Jim Tmmoii who lives in Ced ar Township while adjusting the canvass to a header, fell and dislocated two vertebrae of the sy--nal column. His condition is serious and an operation will likely be necessary to place the, bones in correct position. Fourth of July. I Speed, Power, and Endurance go hand in hand.
