He writes: now Every citizen of Louisburg and patron of the Louisburg public school shonld COMBS: Miss Mary Catherine Ewing was born June 6th 1835 near Georgetown, Kentucky, and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Russell, at Somerset, Kansas, September iSth ioo4raged, 69 years, 3 months, and 12 days.

She was educated at Shelby ville, Kentucky, and married Dr. William Atkisson of Simpson ville, Aug. 10 1856. Dr. Atkisson died April Sth 1865.

About 1S64 she moved to Salem Ind. and taught school for three years. Here she met and married William Combs, the marriage being performed at Siinpsonville, May 23 1867, by Dr. George C. Lorimer, the late pastor of Madison Ave.

Baptist Church, New York City, who recently died in France, where he had gone in search of health. Mrs. Combs was converted about the age of 12 years and united with the Baptist church of which she has remained an active and faithful member throughout her whole life. Her religion was not like a toga to be put on or laid aside at pleasure as we do our garb in heat or cold, but was a vital part of her life, and wherever or in whatever position she was placed or found, she showed theevidence of the Christ life. She has been a Sunday School teacher the greater part of her life, and at the time of her death was teacher of the Bible class, bv which she was especially'esteemed.

The funeral services were held at the Baptist church at Somerset Monday Sept. 19th at 2 p. conducted by the pastor, Rev. W. J.

Houston; the sermon was delivered from the text as found in Rev. 14: 13. Rev. W. Y.

Jones, recently returned from Japan, also assisted in the services. The music which was tender and comforting, was furnished by the Baptist choir from Louisburg. The floral offerings were emblematic and abundant, among them a sickle, as a tribute of esteem from the Sunday School. The services were concluded at the grave and the liody laid to rest in the cemetery at Somerset. Three Mrs.
