HARDWAE.E! "We have jusfc commenced busincps here, and wilL make it an object to you to with us, and sec our fine COOK VAPOR STOVES, SEATING STOVES, CUTLERY, ETC. iMIOMOf lift, Last Saturday thie town wan visited by a oompany of young men, who were out learning some of the leusons of life. They hailed from a oountry town in Nebraska and appeared under the flowery title of Now Orleans Comedy Company, and un dortook to giv our people a star entertainment.

This is the first place that they had undertaken to perform in and from the outcome we judge they wore muuh surprised at the turn things took. The general appearance of the outllt gavo them away, and the audience played them for groeus and enjoyed it hngely, to the chagrin of the would-be stars. Tho oompany worked hard for nearly half an hour whon they began to oomprohend tho situation, and without even offerleg their excuses surreptiously departed for their home afoot and across lots, sadder but wiser men. The experience of these young men illustrate the old proverb, that experience is the only teacher mankind will believe. With high hopes and ambition to match, they started in life expecting, doubtless, that fame and wealth were juBt beyond their grasp, yet so near that they had to but reach forth and accept them.

How the bauble was shattered, yet we hope the ambition will be developed in a more laudable direction and this experience will mark an epoch in their lives to be referred to as the starting point of a long and useful career. There are few men, who, at some time in their lives have not been posessed with an idea that their destiny was a bright one and who have not committed some foolishness that reacted in suoh a manner that their thoughts were turned to the re WEYAND'S SCANDIA, nefc. rai a iiimiij mm mvm -uLotVl CLARK Having purchased tho business of L. When near the top the bottom of the ladder slipped and foil, and Mr." Harrell fell a distance of about fifteen feet, falling across the ladder. He had three ribs broken and his shoulder and finger dislooated, and was otherwise badly bruised. A week or so ago the Seandia Journal wanted to know what had become of the $125,000 or $150,000 that was paid into tho oouuty treasury last year. We asked the Joubnal to explain what ft meant, but for some reason it don't explain worth a cent. If he had no ground for his insinuation of a big steol he should have at least have the fairness to say so.

But, then, perhapB the explanation was crowded out by official notioes. The Democrat should read our article again or get some one elso to read it and It would see that there was np insinuation of a steal is what we said. MOREYj MOREY, President. D. PLACE Keep3 a Genera Stock An endless alities of life, ihe highway ot Uto is broad, but each individual can fill bnt a small space therein, and to fill that space well, should be his highest ambition. The Uiiiouri Pacific Strlki. A calamity, to reach the hearts and awaken the sympathies of a people, must be brought home to them or 80 near that its effects will be felt by those with whom we come in contact.

The strike on the Missouri Pacifia system of railroads reaches and is folt by our own peoplo. Froight tralfio is entirely closed and thousands of poor men whose only means of sustonanoe is cut off, must submit to the decree of the few. That there are two sides to this question to be considered, places it in the province of every intelligent person to hesitate before jumping to a conclusion. It appears that about a year ago the Knights of Labor (the most powerful labor organization in the world) pefected an arrangement with the Mo. Pao.

railroad system to the effect that no member of that organization should be discharged by the company without notice and good cause, At that time the Texas Pacific road in Texas belonged to that system but has since gone into the hands of a receiver, who dischargod an employee, which resulted in the withdrawal of every member of the K. of L. on that line; this was followed up until on an order of the Executive Committee all members of that organization on the entire Gould system of roads, including the Central Branch have ceased work and are now on a strike. The railroad company do not consider that it has violated it's obligations in any particular and have taken the necessary steps to withstand a siege by discharging every employee of the oompany whose sorvices can bo dispensed with, the intent to cut off expenses. None but passenger trains with express and mail, are running.

When there iB a clash between labor and capital the publio must suffer and thore is no branch of trade nor industry that will not be effected disastrously; the farmers will have to suffer with all others as the products of their labor becomes compara tively valueless; for a market gives value in a sense, and a railroad gives market and without capital we could have no rail road, and the operation of a road must be by labor. All should be made to subserve the interests of the others and eaoh must' at times become the controling power, but never to the extent of orippling the rest. The principle of a Republican form of government that the minority should submit to to the majority, and private interests are secondary to publio interests should influence those who have charge of the opposing elements, and bring to an amicable and early adjustment of their differences. leaders Association.
