Lawrence Southern Kansas Railway at about 1 o'clock p. bringing the mail directly here without any delay. There is also a stage leaves Medicine Lodge every morning, arriving at Sharon at 7 o'clock a. and making connection at Harper the same day with the outward bound train for the east. All mails and passengers from the east come directly through from Kansas City to Harper without any change or delay, and then at Harpei are transferred directly from the train to the stage for Sharon, arriving here the same day.

For passengers desiring to come to Sharon they will find sev eral accommodation hacks that charge various prices from Harper to Sharon; but the regular fare of the stage is $1.75 without baggage, and more in propor tion to the baggage persons have with them. AH freights are shipped to Harper, and from there are hauled bv teamsters for 2J cents per 100 to Sharon. Tie distance from Harpei is 24 miles and the road is very good considering that the newness of tht country has not enforced a system 01 road working, previous to Ihe past few years. There is no town in the county. that has mails and all kinds of trans portation facilities as convenient a bliaron.

It is twelve miles nearer the railroad than is any other town, therefore it costs less to have transferred from the railroad, and the passenger rates are much cheaper. This convenience ill still be enhanced in a few weeks, when an extension the road will bring Sharon withii. about twelve miles of the terminus The consequence of Sharon's superior proximity to the railroad over ant other town in the county is that goods can be transported to the town so mucl cheaper, and can therefore be sold at very much lower figures and we art able to back the assertion that Sharon merchants -sell goods of all classes cheaper than they can be purchased elsewhere in the county. Coming, as we did recently from the east, whert prices are low and profits small, wi were surprised to note that there was so little material difference between al staple goods in Sliaron and at tht cheapest places of business in the east. Substantiate of life are cheap, and epi cureans in appetites or dress can reve 1 in their delights at a very small advanct over what they would have to pay at the most popular markets in the east RAILROAD IPROSrECTS.

That Sharon is bound to be the first town in Barber county honored with a railroad can hot be successfully con tradicted by our most rabid rivals. rhe first extension of the Southern Kansas railroad from Attica, Harper county, westward will be made to bha. ron, and from thence to Medicine Lodge. In an interview with one of the managers of the road, he say? this extension of Te'tnafin Tine will be be made as Scon as lire cramped con dition of finances in the east relax and money for the improvements can be used by the company without injuring tself. He gives the assurance that this will be the first extension of the road that will be made.

The permanent survey of the road has been established in Sharon, about eighty rods south of Main street, and the grade stakes are driven all along the line. It will be seen by this that Sharon will without a doubt be the first rairoad Jtown of as there 'is no other 'town 'between it and the Warper'county line. In all probability the road will make Sharon a terminus for -some time, as it will tap three-fourths of the farming country Barber county when it gets here, and the road can gain nothing by pushing on farther west. There is such a large proportion of the farming community of this county and considerable of Harper county tributary to Sharon, and as that is undoubtedly not so entrancing a few years ago, no, and not even a few months ago. But now that the path of emigration is hewn out, the trading center of this part of the great West established, nothing can occur to obstruct the onward march of wealth, society, and business enterprise from the overcrowded Fast, to such fields for great and easy gains, and to the securing of bright and happy homes, surrounded by peace and plenty, and in a climate which can defy the world lor health-giving qualities.

What wonder that when all this and more too abides in and surrounds Sharon, that it has al- ready had such a great prosperity, and is now inviting all who are desirous of bettering their conditions in life, of seeking now and noon desirable homes. to come where all this can be obtained with no risks to run by those who have the judgement and business tact to succeed under the most favorable circumstances. Cheap homes, Gov. ernment land, a desirable business location, and a thousand and one ad vantages are ottered here, which, to good business men can not but prove that Sharon is really the location for which they have been seeking, and that it is needless for them to look farther. CHL'RCH fRIVILECES.

The church privileges here of course are not so excellent as they would be in an older and more densely populated community, but in a shorter time than usual all of this will be brought around. Services are now held about twice a month at the school house ont mile south of Sharon, and Sunday school is held there every Sunday. Quite an interesting Sunday school is conducted there, under the manage ment of Squire Pel ton, Superintent and the scholars, teachers and officers all evince a pleasure, in their weekly study of the Scriptures on the frontier Although the school house is too small to accommodate as large an attendance as is always present at religious servi ces, stiil arrangements have been madt for the erection of a churcl under the auspices of the Christian church, and when completed it will be dedicated for the worship of the Lord, and the expounding of the Gospel within its walls by the ministers of all recognized denominations. A largt portion of the community are true Christians, and all are attendants at religious services. It is anticipated that one of the most interesting church organisations in the county can be ef fected here after the completion of a suitable building for the congregation Those who would hesitate to deprive themselves of the privilege of attending divine services need not hesitate to come to thfctrcmmanity that accont.

as they will Rnd 'excellent church privileges frete in short time, supported by Qod-fearing and 'God-serving Christians, who are true to their beliefs and profession's. Sharon will have a church building before any other town in the county will, with the exception of Medicine Lodge. SCHOOL ADVANTAGES. Recently riie Shron school district voted bonds for theburldfng of a thousand dollar school house, and the location was fixed in the northern part of Sharon, about forty rods north of Main street, and the contract will be let and operations commenced at once on the building. There is no doubt but that first-class school privileges will be af forded the juveniles of Sharon.

There are several excellent teachers in the community now who came here highly recommended for their educational abilities from points in the east; and no embarrassment will be experienced in obtaining No. 4 educators to take chatge-of the schools. The directors and officers of the School Board are educated and enterprising gentlemen themselves, and everybody can be fully assured that "Sharon's public schools this winter will be second to none in Barber county. 'By hastily glancing over the school children of our acquaintance in the district we can count about 75, and the number will probably be 100 at the opening of the schools therefore two teachers of REPUBLICAN TICKET. Uusihess Men, Mechanics, fcapi-tnlia'ts, Tradesrnen, Laborers and nil Classes pf Desirable CitrVeiis re Cordially Imdteci to Come, Behold and Wonder, 'Willi this issue we shall atteihpt to give a detailed sketch of the town of Sharon, whose unparalled growth and prosperity since its establishment by the Sharon Town Company, has excited a widespread wonder throughout the West. The history of the growth of Sharon is not a repetition of the histories of thousands of towns that have been founded in Xhe great West within the past decade. Its growth has not been that Hvhich could be likened to the sudden brilliant 'appearance of a "meteor, 'which 'ho sooner startles its beholders with wonder 'tirid adrniratin, than its light fades away, leaving only an unsatisfactdryand dim remembrance cf its briefcaree'r. Xhhbtgh Sharon's first appearance was remarkable for its progress and prosperity, it did not flash upon the view of the beholders for a brief period, but it came to stay, and it has stayed, and will stay, 'tilt' the cities which were established years before will see themselves helplessly dwindling away into insignificance be fore the infantile prodigy.

It has been founded and backed throughout by a Town Company which is characterized Joritg business qualities, every day by the increased impetus to the great boom with which the advent of Sharon was hailed, and which lias heralded it in every step it has taken along its short journey toward mature growth. With the future before It sore. plete with bright prospects, Sharon can not but be thankful that its lot has been cast in such pleasant quarters, and cor dially invites all who desire easy and pleasant gains, desirable homes, pleas ant society and everything propitious to longevity and enjoyment of life, to come and dwell where all of the above can only be attained. ihe Sharon lown Company was permanently organized January 12th, 1 884, for the purpose of establishing a town, and the site waschoserion a va cant 80 acres of Government land, viz: eZ nvr'J Section it, Tp. ,2, south of Range 10, west of 6th p.

Fairbanks) real estate office of Karr and Davis, and the Post Office and drug store building of S. H. Hen-ton's. Since that date, many new buildings both residence and business have been erected, and the following different branches of business are represented in the most wide awake little town it was ever the fortune of anyone to behold. Four groceries, two dry goods stores, one hardware store, real estate office, drug store, stationery and notion store, Post Oice) two black smith shops, one livery stable, one hotel, two practicing physicians, several carpenters wagon shop, farmers' supply store, and last, but we hope not least, a newspaper that is exerting itself to apprise the whole world of the great advantages to be derived from locating in ShaVon.

Prtfmfee is had of a number of more business men who will locate here this fall and winter, and a number of buildings will be erected, and are being Wetfe'd now-. The business men "of the town and those who are directly or in'directly concern ed or conntfetetf the Welfare of the town are wide-awake, five and en-terpristng; hesitating at too expense and abating no effort toward tasking the town the grand success which it was intended to be. The town site is on the western bank of a beautiful, spark ling little stream, and is located on an almost imperceptibly undulating valley which extends for miles and miles on the West, South and East, with nothing to'mar the beauty of the scene. On the North, a small chain of hills rear themselves toward the" sky, break ing any monotony that might be apparent in the scene. This range of hills is composed of a bright red stony substance, which gives to the scene around it a beautifuLgrartddur, pleasing to the'eye, sfhd-irlrpissiftS the "intici-: pation of fartcy.

Thes beautiful red sentries serenely reign arid overlook the brodd valley laying before them for many miles, and gives the scene a pic-turesqueness dnd attractiveness defying the portrayal of either the brush or pen. A more beautiful town site could not have been, selected in the West, and taking into consideration, all the pleasant'stirroundings and advantages of Sliaron the present scene of such exciting, activity, business, wealth, pro its flattering railroad prospect and while Sharon will have these two roads, there is no reason to believe that any other town in the county will be so preferred, as none can offer the inducements to compete with Sharon.
