Jap. Simpson, the unfortunate fellow who fell in the shaft last Saturday night a week ago, is doing as well as could be expected under the circumstances.

Drs. Camp and Hull are attending him, Everybody seems Javorably dis posed towards the Miner's sugges tion that the new school house be located some where near: the corner of Third street and Galena or 3Vash ington avenues. Our cotemporary wants eyery man who "gets drunk aud gives a whoopV locked up. We heartily endorse his theory, but. fear its application, practically, would seriously effect the publication of the Messenger.

Another livery stable is talked of in Galena. The stock Is to come from Joplin. We do not see why a third stable would not do well here, as there is hardly a day wheu the demand for teams does not exceed the supply now kept by the proprietors of the two stables here. If the people of Galena and vicinity would, out of kindness to auctioneer Swift and themselves more especially the latter, remember that goods are. sold at auction every Saturday afternoon, perhaps4t would obviate the necessity of sending a bell-boy out "around town." We understand that the worthy Sioux who holds the honorable' position of treasurer, to whom we slight reference last week, is going to scalp us, with a letter to be published iu the Messenger this week.

We anxiously await the beginning of the scalping process. J. Henley and Louis Kaiser Moellcr won a box of choice cigars off of Henry Bergh and O. H. Bender, on last Sunday, on a wager that they, J.

H. and L. M. wouldn't walk to Joplin. The old fellows didn't think the boys had so much grit, bet to bluff, and "got left." Matt Stafford and Will Lloyd struck it up again, last Saturday, in their shaft at Bonauza, at a depth of sixty-five feet.

They have now three feet face of pure galena. We hope it will "stay with" the boys as they are both jolly good fellows and have done a great deal of fruitless pros pecting. Fritz Weber, placed tbe A. O. W.
