Will C. Smith who has been recuperating for a few weeks, has resumed his duties at the postoffice. Geo. H. Roberts left last Sunday night to report an important case to be tried at Osborne, Kan Geo.

Pennell and Churl es C. Cook went out ou the Central Branch last Sunday night. Isaac Friend, brother of L. Friend, was in town last Monday, purchasing goods for his store in Valley Falls. Mr.

Hon. T. wight Thatcher, editor of the Lawrence Journal, was in Atchison last Monday. T. W.

Gardner, editor of the Valley Fails HegUter, looked over the metropolis last Monday. Henry L. Stein, who put out the fire in the hotel at Boloit two weeks ago, and is the traveling lecturer for J. Herman came in last Tuesday. Miss Ethel Ingalls deserves to be commended for her good work in collecting clothing tor the destitute on the western frontier.

John Kafler.of the popular firm of Kaffer McKeever, grocers, has just returned home from a two weeks' trip to Chicago, snd a visit to bis parents in Champaign, Illinois. Rt. Rev. Abbot Inocent Wolf, returned from Rome last Wednesday. The occasion was one of general rejoicing and a holiday at St Benedicts.

Dr J. S. Long, and his sister -in-law, Mrs Steele of Highland Kan, both well- known in socitev circles, attended the "Old Folks" dance in this city, Thursday night, The doctor is a graceful dancer, and no one on earth likes to "trip the light fantastic' better thah he. The Long mansion, near Highland, is noted for its splendid recep tions, where the doctor and his cultured wife dispense liberality in true Christian style. The first party ot the SansFacon re ception took place at the Otis House last Friday evening about forty couple participated.

The floor managers were Messrs Bird, Best, Haskell, while Iligby and Todd comprised the reception committee. Philip p's full band furuished excellent music.
