THE towrship was down Tuesday and planked down a hundred cent dollar for.the twice-a-week Democrat for a whole year. It is just such patriots as Mr. Kemper that makes it possible to win great victories. He already has his coat off for Brvan in 1900 and foresees victory complete. He is proud of the fact that his township sent in the largest list of subscribers to the Democrat, and is proud as well that his township made such a splen did record in the late election.

No man takes the im-portunings or suggestions of his constituents more kiodly than he. Learned and dignified, yet appioach-abie at all times, he will make a model legislator. He is glad to hear any and all suggestions that may be formulated into good law. and takes especial pains to gather evidence representing the wishes of his constituents. What do our readers think of the plan of holding a meeting composed of representative men from each township in the county for the purpose of giving intelligent expression of Butler county people as to what legislation should be effected? Come in and talk it over, and if it is tnought best doubtless a plan can be devised whereby such a meeting can held.

"Tho Defaulter," the latest work from the pen of Lincoln Carter, author of "The Fast Mail" and "The Tornado" is one of the best plays of modern time s. It is a drama in the true sense of the word and while abounding in strong situations and thrilling climaxes, there is nothing of a melodramatic character about it. Tho story is one of intense interest, old in an intelligent and concise manner, nile tne play is strongly a 1 i a dramatic in tone, Mr. 'Jarter has m- roduced a vein of bright, clean and wholesome comedy that is most re- reshing. "Ihe Defaulter" is not a seenic play, yet it is being presen- ed with a wealth of beautiful scenery and is interpreted by an efficient company.

Dr. S.A. Smith was at Oxford Tues day night and Wednesday attending the meeting of the Ministers and Members of the Walnut Valley Asso ciation. Ho spoke Tuesday night on "Tho Preaching for the Times." The attendance at the meeting was very good and the program created a good deal of interest. The next meeting will probably be at Burden.

Dr. Smith has several excellent topics this series of sermons yet to be delivered. A cordial invitation is extended to all to hear these discourses. While "The Defaulter," Lincoln Carter's new play, does not depend upon scenic and mechanical efforts for its success, it will, nevertheless, have the benefit of magnificent stage settings prepared expressly for it.
