To the Editor of the Commonwealth One cannot pass up along the line of the Kansas Pacific without being made glad with the fair face of the country along the line. It is certainly the fairest SUNDAY, OCTOBER 30, 1870. We advise our citizens to beware of a man who can carry two buckets of coal from the coal yard without leave, and who, when he comes to the city, always carries both hands in a sling. This man solicits alms, and at the same time has houses and lands in the hands of agents for sale. His physicians say "he can work if he will only take his hands from the sling, and go to work." "Some wet," said a man from the country yesterday.

"Golly how it pours," said another. "You bet," replied a third, and so on the whole day. At times it was so dark that our compositors had to light lamps and candles. The tide of the ages seems to have rolled backward, and we are again bordering on the time of the great flood. At least one would think so from the amount of water that fell yesterday.
