The citizens are asked to assist, in this matter, by purchasing tickets; which can be used at their face value whenever the holder patron-, izes the line. This is a very fair proposition and should meet with a prompt and generous response. No one can deny that Highland has great need of a telegraph line and this seems a splendid opportunity for securing one. Let all come forward and show thir interest by purchasing as many tickets as possible. The amount required is estimated at 8200 and if sufficient encouragement is given, the line will be built at once.

The tickets are negotiable; so, if you don't make use of them yourself you can transfer them to others. BY NORMAN K. HICKMAN. In beauty over the ivied walls The glory of Autumn's sunlight falls. Thro' the maple branches the low wind grieves O'er faded grasses and amber leaves.

Forth from these halls in the years gone by When skies were sunny and hopes were high Have passed to their life work men of prayer, Their brows unfurrowed by cumbrous care. Forth to a world of blight and sin, Forth with the Christ enthroned within. Some to carry with willing hands The Word of Life into distant lands.

Kansas has emphatically sustained prohibition at every election held since its fidoption. The law may not be strictly enforced in all localities, neither are many other laws; but we do not want to legalize crime because we cannot entirely it. It is a great satisfaction to know that man's soul cannot be bartered for--drink according to law. Our government could have made good use of this canal during the recent Samoan troubles. The location is most favorable, far superior to that selected for the Panama canal. In Nicaraugua, much less severe storms and more favorable winds prevail than in Panama, while the climate is comparatively healthful as compared with the deadly miasma of Panama. Success for the project seems assured and American engineers and enterprise show the world how to build a perfect canal. The late Anarchist demonstrations in Chicago and elsewhere were totally lacking in enthusiasm.

American soil, drenched with the blood of patriots and heroes, is not good ground for the seeds of anarchy. Prohibition is a success and has come to stay.

If the lonesome re-submissionists will quietly sit down upon them selves hey will save the better class of citizens the trouble of doing this fict for them..
