Protracted meetings at the Plea-ant Valley school house. Thanksgiving passed off quietly and pleasantly in this section of the county. The greatest event was the oyster supper at John Wedd's. given under the auspices of the Odd Fellows of Oak Hill. A very pleasant time was had.

The Odd Fellows know how to enjoy themselves as well as to dispose of oysters. Mr. T. J. Allen of Kansas City, one of the largest live stock dealers in the United States, and a brottn of Mrs.

Gowenlock, will be in Clay Center tomorrow. Mr. Allen will be remembered by the old-time stock men of Clay countv has having bought cattle in this section 15 or 20 years ago. The lat larjje stock operation of Mr. Allen was selling one and one-quarter million dollars worth of Texas cattle to an English syndicate.

This was the lamest cattle deal that ever took place in America. The predictions have been verified. the day has been cloud and the ath- i er would seem to indicate that wintei has settled down for keeps. The Smith brothers seem to have been the fortunate individuals at the turkey i raflle at Oak Hill on the -J4th they having won three or four turkeys apiece. Some thirty or forty Park ys were dis- posed of on that day at the raffle.
