The Register has been greatly Jennison. justice Buckland inquest Johnson, sheriff Dawson, taking evidence Moses, juror i ft GanO 1 Cone 1 Bidlemun 1 A reporter for ilie Salina Republican gives the secret workings of the new Buffalo lodge dead away in the following language: Are you a Buffalo? There is only one correct answer to this question these days, aQd that can only be learned by initiation.

If you have not been asked the question already you are behind the times, but no one need worry it will come sooner or later. And when it comes you will likely remember it for some time. The Buffaloes is the name of a new secret order that sprang no one Knows where and spread over the entire country in almost no time. Several men in every town will tell you that they organized it and perhaps they think that they did. It is organized, however, and that good and plenty, for every true Buffalo becomes thoroughly organized at the time of his initiation.

When you are rirt asked the question by someone who knows, and you express a desire to learn what he is talking about, he will take you into a small corner and ask you for 11 cents. That is your jflithinon fe. Yoy wjH ngt hfive the exact change, or, if you do it will spoil half the fun. You will at leat hand him a quarter or peihaps a dollar thinking to give him trouble in making lie odd change. But it won't worry hi hi a bit.

lie will put your money In his pocket and then he will tell you to reply to the question "Are jou a Buffalo-'', He will show you the grip. Besides, he will tell you that if you are ever caught drinking wrth your right hand you are "stuck" for the drinks for all Buffaloes present. You will prehaps ask for your change but you will be informed that it is against the principles for any Buffalo to give back anything handed him and he will relieve you by saying that you will not be a "full" Buffalo until he has spent the money you gave him in drinks. And this is perfectly tru, for when the very first drink is ordered ou will forget and lift it in your right hand, and be bartender will tell you that jou must pay for the drinks. You will be very lucky if you are not a "full" Buffalo long before tour money is spent.

And that is whv everybody laughs when you henr the question. "Are you a Buffalo?" Dr Hess, witness 1 Buckland 1 A Conuett 1 nnr'f i improved within the last year. To meet the growing demands of the college and increase the efficiency of the work in the music department, a systematic four years course, with a preparatory department has been adopted. Examinations are required at the end of- the prescribed work aud to those making satisfactory grades cards of promotion in the preparatory and first years work will be given: in the second and third, certificates of merit: at tbe end of the full course a diploma of graduation will be given. As every intelligent musician and every thoroughly equipped music teacher must have a knowledge of the theory of music in these days thorough bass must be taken in the second years work and harmony, composition and counterpoint in tbe third and fourth years by those wishing to graduate. Tbe adoption of this course by the college brings tbe possibility of a thorough musical education within tbe reach of all, many of whom could not afford the enormous expense incurred by going to the city to study. Then, too, something to work for some definite aim in view, has its weight in the study of music as in other branches more and better work is done when a pupil knows he must be examined in it.

A number of students have already entered the regular course and signified their intention of completing it. As the advantages of this work at so small an expense compared with going abroad to study, becomes better known, many more will be glad to avail themselves of the opportunity to become not only accomplished musicians, but well prepared to teach in this most beautiful and uplifting of all studies.
