The climatic record of this month was observed as being very warm and a xhenomenal feature of un anomalous nature was noted throughout the entire month, vegetation assuming a second growth; matured seed of plants and grasses that ripened during the summer dropped to the ground and are growing with renewed vigor the foliage of trees was entirely green prairie grasses also had a verdant growth, giving sufficient pasture for stock wheat fields were in excellent growing condition at the end of the month. The formation oi the subsoils is of a porous nature throughout this locality and the entire soils to the Utile formation are thoroughly saturated with moisture. The rain showers during the month were all slow and calm, the soils retaining the eutire rainfall. Only one electric rain shower was noted, and that on the 15th, the thunder causing very severe and heavy shocks of the atmosphere, shaking windows and rattling sheifware in houses.

Fogs were noted on 5 days; light traces of frost were observed on the 19th and 21th. The average cloudiness of the sky was 01.1 percent; days less than oue-fourth cloudy, entirely clear days, 2 entirely cloudy, 12. The humidity of the atmophere was 83.8 per the highest saturation of vapor, 09 per was noted on the lOtli the entire day being one continuous fog and light mist with no perceptible winds the lowest, 66 per on the 7th and tu. (The humidity for October, 1870, 50 per 1830, 38 per cent.) Tri-daily observations of the surface winds' directions: blowing from the south, 14; southwest, 16 west, northwest, north, 8 northeast, 10 cast, 10 southeast, 14; calms, 14 the prevailing winds were southeast, south and southwest; lower strata moving from the soutt on 2 days; southwest, 12 west, cast, 1 southeast, upper strata, the entire month from the west, accompanied daily with cirrus clouds. Heavy dews were noted on 9 mornings atmospheric haze occurring on 3 mornings, number of gales exceeding 25 miles per hour, no severe or brisk gales were noted.

Mean barometor for the month was 30.01 inches reduced to sea level the highest pressure was on the 13th, 30.37 inches tho lowest on the 28th, 29.50 inches, giving a monthly range of .87 inches. Three well defined low barometric areas were one, especially low, was noted on the 28th, .50 inches below normal, followed by entirely calm weather and lati-tudinated cirro strata clouds the entire day. From the 10th to 31st, migrations of birds, wild greese and ducks appearing numerously the latter were seen in large numbers ou toe sloughs and ponds. JohnH. Wolfk, Observer, Wellington, Kansas.
