Goods company, informed a reporter or woman, you may be sure. Mrs. Etta Bell hunted up the city attorney this morning and told her tale of woe. According to her story, she and another woman were driving across the the Sixth street bridge last night when Bill Morgan came out of the joint over there, jumped upon the buggy and beat her up terribly and she showed a badly cut and bruised face as proof of the beating. It is probable, however, that Etta, who is one of the frailest of the frail, her companion and Bill were making a night of it over there in the joint and an altercation lead to the difficulty.

At any rate Etta is badly defaced and says Bill did it. A complaint was filed in behalf of the state and Constable Breen arrested him. 82 tf Mrs. Ed Hosmer was out driving last night when her horse became frightened at some children sitting in the road, whirled around upsetting the buggy and throwing her out on her head, then ran away, smashed the buggy to pieces and seriously hurt itself. Mrs. Hosmer was badly fright ened but fortunately scarcely Injured The Southwestern Soldiers association managers have been asked a number of times why they do not attend to having the weeds cut in and about the city. Just why they should be asked'to do this is a little hard to understand.

It is true that they expect to bring 40,000 or 50,000 people to the city; to be instrumental in distributing among our business men some scores of thousands of dollars; to advertise Arkansas City to the uttermost parts of the universe: to bring some of the most eminent and able men of the nation to delight our people from the platform; this is all true. But they will not make one single, solitary, non-legal tender copper cent out of all these mammoth benefits to the city. Why, then, should such an intimation be made? It is the city's place to make the city respectable, healthful and sightly for the accommodation of the thousands of people the reunion will bring here. One of the rights the people acquire at the hands of a city government when they surrender voluntarily their individual autonomy is that of having the streets tf the City properly cared for, the abatement of nuisances and the preservation of healthy conditions at least on the public thoroughfares. The people should make their complaints known and felt to and by the at all.
