The United Telephone Company propose to put up a telephone line between Howard and Sedan, via Moline. The citizens of the three'places are to take stook to the amount of $1500 for which the company is to issue coupons to subscribers, which will be received in payment for messages sent, The charges will be twenty-five cents for five minutes use of the telephone. On Sunday evening a fire was started in George Angell's harness shop by some iive coals that were left in a wooden ash box, when the at hes were taken up. The fire was discovered ere the flames got under much headway, and was put out, after damaging the floor to some extent and burning up the ash box.

The citizens of Independence and Cof-feyville see the benefits to be derived from the D. M. A. narrow guage road, and each will make a strong fight far the fav ored posi'ion. Would that all the citizens ofChautauqua county would open their eyes and do likewise.
