Mr. Webber, assistant superintendent of the Pinkerton station, of Kansas City, has been here for several days looking after pointers. The attendance was so large as to even surprise the most sanguine of the committee on preparations, and it made the fellows who have attempted to belittle the Alliance ashamed of themselves. The most conservative estimates place the crowd at ten thousand. It was nearly ten o'clock when the delegates commenced to arrive.

These parties live in Elgin and one of them was Homer Hendricks, the hard ware man, who refused to testify. The County Attorney ordered hira to be committed for contempt. Mr. Hen-drick's attorney, J. V.

Beekman, has gone to Topeka to secure a writ of habeas corpus from the Supreme Court, which will determine the point whether a county attorney can commit for contempt. The annual school meeting will le held the 31st of July. The efficiency of our schools depends largely on the olllc-ers tb.it are elected. The people are very liberal in the matter of voting school tax, in fact many districts in this county have heretofore voted a larger per cent for the support of schools alone than the percentage of taxation in the older states for state, county and all other purposes. It would be but reason ittiirir in and for Cliautainiua county.
