33 Wolf creek will soon traverse Harrison county, Kansas. Scriven Bros. shipped seven car loads of grain last week. Over two hundred bushels of wheat sold in Lucas Tuesday. Barr Fowler are headquarters for Garden Tree and Field Seeds in bulk.

rail way traverses the entire length of the valley. Scriven represents the State Insurance Company of Des Moines, Iowa. A large number of our farmers have expressed their intentions of planting a large acreage of the celebrated Kafir corn. It has proved a success in the Wolf creek valley. Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Thomas were in town Tuesday. John R. Bell, of Pottersville, was a pleasant caller Monday.

Prof. S. A. Wilson was reported on the sick list Tuesday. Mrs.

L. MeAdams, of Blue Stem creek, is visiting in Lucas this week. HI. W. Miller was slightly under the weather the fore part of this week.

Fred Naylor was confined to his bed the fore part of the week with fever. Hon. Andrew Jackson Francis once more appeared on our streets Tuesday. David Carbiener and family returned Saturday morning from their visit to Bremen, Indiana. S.

P. Carusi, Wakeeney's colossal pension examiner, was in Lucas al short time Tuesday evening. Mr. Thomas Minear visited this thriying burgh, Tuesday, on his regalar bi-weekly business trip. Harvey Davis visited town yesterday and employed the greater part of his time setting up the cigars.

We are pleased to learn that Prof. R. Shearer had a safe journey home. He is rapidly improving and we hope ere long to see him among us again. William Markel and family have been confined to their beds with an attack of billious intermittant feyer.

We are pleased to state that Mr. Markel is able to resume work and his family, though still weak, are improving rapidly. BORN--Unto Mr. and Mrs. Chas.

E. Hughey, of this city, on Wednesday, February 20, '89, a son, weight eight pounds. Smith, Rev, F. McMillan officiating. Mr. Davis is one of Lincoln county's best young men, and is in the employ of his uncle, of the firm of Brunt Holcomb, of Lincoln, Kansas. The bride is well known in Lucas, and is the daughter of Mr.

Archie P. Smith, residing on East Wolf, near Camp Kinney. The was solemnized in the presence of a large number of relatives and friends of the bride and groom. All went "merry marriage bell," and after congratulations and presents were bestowed upon the young people, all partook freely of the bountiful feast prepared. The good wishes of all go with them through life.

BUTTON the residence of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Carson, in Lucas, Kansas, the 19th day of February, 1889, Mr.

Frank Button and Miss Clara A. Carson, both of Lucas, Kansas. Mr. Button is a favorite with the young people of Lucas, as well as his bride, and will make a good husband. The young wife will makea good helpmeet, doing her part wherever they may go in this life.

The ceremony was performed by Rev. B. F. McMillan, and was witnessed by a number of friends and members of the several families related to them. All went "merry as a marriage bell," and each vied with the other to muke it a time of ing.

A sumptuous repast was served at the conclusion of the ceremony. The good wishes of all go with them through life, Disappointed Youngsters. Wedding Bells. Last Tuesday evening a few "kids" assembled together, equipped with various articles of household use that would give forth a resonant noise when pounded upon with sticks, hied themselves to the residence of Mr. Carson, with the intentian of treating Mr.

and Mrs. Frank Button to a The kids crept softly up on hands and knees through the snow, and just as they were about to disturb the peaceful repose of the residents of the house, the door suddenly opened and Mr. Carson appeared upon gay and festive scene. One of the kids was so unfortunate as to be caught in his grasp. The poor kid, thinking that at last a sudden and terrible death stared him in the face, imme-1 diately commenced to twist, squirm, kick and bellow as loudly and lustily as a young calf, for help: and: mercy.

At length, between his sobs and moans, he managed to blurt out, "Oh, please don't kill me; I'll tell who I'am and who the rest of the boys are. I don't want to die so young." Mr. Carson's heart of adamant was touched and melted with pity. He released the aforesaid kid. who immediately "lit out for tali timber," and the speed with which he traversed a bee-line for home could not be equalled by a streak of greased lightning on a telegraph wire, His companions had basely deserted him and sought shelter behind out houses, barns, and were shortly after seen stealing away as softly as possible across the bright.

Such proceedings are outrageous and apt to lead to performances of a worse nature, and the parents of the kids would do well to give them sundry and severe applications of Dr.
