on It is a grand good thing for our homesteaders -that -so many huildings are going up in Sherman county, as it gives them work, and scatters the mon ey through the county, and keeps them from being obliged to go some place else to earn money to live upon. O. N. McDowell, an old settler 8-39, has handed us his name as a candidate for the office of Co. Clerk.

He settled on his claim in June, 1885, be ing one among the first, and is in good standing among the homesteaders this county, though a stranger to us. By looking over the announcements in this paper, you will see the name George Patton in the field for the office of County Treasurer. Mr. Patton is well known here among our people as a strait upright man, and any recom mendation from us would be almost useless, and we suppose he is still better known amoung the people in the south half of this county. Now as our first year of the publicat ion of the News has passed away, and is a thing in past History, we hope all will try and make it a point to settle with us? and thereby give us strength to start anew into the coming year strong and vigerous, and we can add more to the News, help the town, county and homesteaders.

The crowd by this time had gathered in to the tune of 24, and an invitation was given to come foward and sign the constitution and eight enrolled their names, many of the others belonging to other lodges, and some new town men were rresent.
